I get lots of emails about new products and thought I’d share a few of them for those of you who like to tackle small painting jobs like I do. First up, is this Kilz adhesion bonding primer. Kilz sent me a quart of it, and I’ve used it on a few recent projects that have involved glossy surfaces, including this ceramic vase:
I’ve also used it on furniture with slicker laminate surfaces like these chairs. As promised, I’ve been able to skip the sanding step and get right to painting after applying this primer:
(I’ll show you more once these are finished.)
The next two products I haven’t personally tried but would like to at some point. The Paint Brush Cover saves your brushes from destruction in between coats of paint. “Why didn’t I think of that?” says the girl who currently has four different brushes wrapped in plastic wrap in her fridge.
And, finally, a product for those of us who get really indecisive when it comes to choosing a color for the walls. SureSwatch is a peel and stick decal that lets you paint a larger swatch, stick it to your wall, study it until your heart’s content and then remove it. (It’s currently available for 98 cents at the Home Depot paint counter.)
I’ve been meaning to try that brush cover thing as well. Such a genius idea.
I used it a few times and the paint dried out. I will stick with plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
Oh the SureSwatch is awesome!! I’ve paid $5 for a package of 2 SW sticky boards (they are large – but goodness the price!). Thanks for sharing! I’m currently choosing between 4 whites and need to get these!
I need that brush cover and that paint and peel swatch is genius!
Ohh must try all of these!
I am guilty of having at least 2 paint brushes in my fridge at any time!
I just bought a quart of Kilz to try. I’ve never used a primer before but heard this one is the best. I noticed those paint films at Home Depot, too! I’m intrigued…
Thanks for this post Emily! I’m definitely going to try the Kilz Adhesion and I’m thrilled to learn about the paint brush covers! My fridge is also full of brushes and rollers wrapped in foil :)
I do the saran wrap around the paint brushes as well. Those little savers look really handy!
I’m excited to try the primer as well. If I can avoid sanding some projects I’ll be much happier.
That Sure Swatch is a great idea!
Thanks! I hope you enjoyed using the SureSwatch
Oh these sort or articles make me long for Lowe’s. The first year living in Germany has been a series of translations and trial and error at the hardware store. I am sure they have handy products like these here but I can’t read the labels so I am not sure what I am supposed to do with them. I could definitely use the paint brush covers says ANOTHER girl who currently has four different brushes wrapped in plastic wrap in her fridge.
I’m glad to hear your fridge is filled with old brushes, too :) I can only imagine the challenge of explaining what you’re looking for at the hardware store. My diy projects would be on the slow track!
Ha. I usually put my brushes in a ziplock and pop them in the freezer. I never tried the fridge. Does it work the same?
And, I’ve never put mine in the freezer :)
Oh love this post because I have both items on my “to review list” but it’s just been way to cold to tackle any paint projects in my garage :(
Washing brushes is my least favorite task. That thing is genius!
The brush cover did not work for me. It still dried out and hardened.
Maybe I should have wrapped it in plastic wrap and then put it in the cover.
