Lighting In Our Stairwell

February 4, 2014

You normally only see our stairs from this angle:

That’s because, for months, the light there looked like this:

light-before

When the bulb went out, it was a pain in the neck to change it and almost impossible to get the globe back on. I thought you might like to see what we replaced it with (finally):

I found this pendant at a thrift store and thought it would be a better fit for this spot:

We hired someone to come hang it—for fear my husband would break his neck balancing a ladder on the stairs. It probably would’ve benefited from a coat of primer first, but I waited until the last minute to paint it so it ended up being a little chipped once it was hung. But, imperfect kind of works with this style. I sprayed it Valspar Gloss Montpelier Palmetto Green:

Lighting in this spot is less than ideal for good photos, but I promise it’s an improvement to what has been there for the last few months—and we can actually change the bulb while standing on the steps:

It looks really good. I used to not notice light fixtures and lamps, but not want to change all of them in my house!

Love your new light! How fun! A local thrift shop here actually had a bunch of them in a similar green. Love all the kiddie art too! :)

I have been in need of switching out the boob lighting in our house. I think the last count was 6 total. I was considering putting two in a room just to create a “conversation” but my husband vetoed that idea! LOL! Love your new light.

Love it! How much did it cost to get a professional to install? We’re debating how much we’re willing to spend on a fixture if it needs to be installed…

I think they charged us around $50. Well worth it, after I saw my husband trying to climb a very unbalanced ladder.

Sometimes just knocking or those seemingly small projects is quite a relief. Living the color!

I love it! To me, the fact that it’s thrifted and imperfect makes it even better. I really like the framed footprints too btw :)

SO great! And totally crushing on the green you went with! I have a similar fixture waiting to be installed in our storage room.

So smart to use a fixture that’s easy to change the bulb in that tricky spot. Love the color too!
