Last January, I made a list of “home goals” as an ambitious way to keep myself on track with house projects. Funny how sharing your list with thousands of people can help with your motivation. Overall, I made some good progress. Want to take a look at how I did?
Home Goal #1: Learn to remove wallpaper.
I did it, although I only completed our small powder room. I blogged about what worked best for me here. It was a slow process since I worked bit by bit, mainly after the kids went to bed, but I consider this one of my greatest feats of the year.
Home Goal #2: Put a lot of nails in our living room wall.
I could envision what I wanted the long, TV wall in our living room to look like, but just couldn’t get started when it came to hanging artwork. I couldn’t decide if I had enough pieces to start a gallery wall or what arrangement I wanted, so it remained blank. One day, I got brave, grabbed a hammer and just started hanging frames. I started on one side of the room and worked my way over to the other side of the TV.
Home Goal #3: Organize our kitchen drawers.
Ummm, has it been a year already since I said I was going to do this? 2014 is my year to organize, I’m sure of it.
Home Goal #4: Try a new color in our home.
I ventured away from an overall neutral paint palette and used this bright coral/red on the girls’ ceiling. I also brought in this bright blue on the little desk and chair.
Home Goal #5: Attempt to keep a cleaner desk.

Fail. I always fear that out of sight will actually mean out of mind, and I’ll completely forget what I need to do if I put it away. I resolve to do better :)
Home Goal #6: Organize my closet and jewelry.
It’s so bad, there’s not even a picture for this one. What can I say? I was too busy taking down wallpaper to worry about a closet no one ever sees. I did pin several ideas, if that counts for anything.
Goals for 2014. . .
I’m not setting any official home goals for this year. I do have a few projects I want to work on, starting with the girls’ bathroom. But, overall, I just want to focus on making our house more functional and making the best use of the space we have. I know we have some wasted storage space (especially in the kids’ closets) that I could put to better use with a little organization. (Why does that word keep coming up?!) I’m also thinking on ideas for a shared bedroom for the twins, and I’m finally going to start doing some (kid-proof) decorating in our new den. That should keep me busy for the next 12 months.
What are you working on? Did you make a list of home goals for the new year?
Oh My! You did all that with Bert and Ernette underfoot. Wonder Woman!
Me? Well this year I’m just hoping to do a little more than last year and that in itself will be
something. ;)
Happy 2014

Why didn’t I name them that? :)
Good luck with this year’s goals and here’s to a wonderful 2014. x

Hope 2014 is a wonderful year for you! But I disagree with the “fail” on the cleaner desk thing. I think it means you have of a lot of great things in the works.
Okay, I’ll go along with that :)
Isn’t that how all resolutions are? I feel like they never get 100 percent accomplished. Here’s to a fabulous 2014 and I love how your powder room came out!
I have to agree with Linda. A cluttered desk is a good thing. Even Einstein thought a cluttered desk was a sign of a creative and active mind.
Happy New Year! Every drawer and and cabinet and closet in my house needs organizing and let’s not even mention the attic! I have got to get it all together soon!
Oh I so feel you on this! All my goals around the house are to get it decluttered and organized — my full list is here: http://www.lifeinyellow.com/2014/01/january-is-synonymous-with-purging-and-organization/ !
Happy 2014!
Great post!!! Thanks for keeping it real!
