#4. A built-in desk to make the most of office space in a bay window.
(And, a great home tour.)

#6. I’ve heard way more talk about choosing “your word” instead of making resolutions for the new year. If I had to pick one word, mine would be focus. I can feel the time flying by and want to stop and really look at my kids more in 2014. I want to focus more on the big picture (healthy kids, nice home, etc.) instead of getting caught up in the little details (temper tantrums, clutter, to-do lists, etc.) as much. What’s your word for this year?
I love your word! That is a great one for me too, I tend to be all over the place trying to get everything done and getting nothing done. My word for the year is “present” I find myself like I said all over the place and not listening like I should and not making the personal connections I really should be with my family and friends. Hope your year is off to a great start!!
My word for 2914 is intentional. I especially need to be more intentional with my time, and also with what I bring into my house. Clutter will be the death if me otherwise, I’m sure of it!
Kindness. It is not about me and it is so lacking in our world.
My word will be PURPOSE. I want to do everything that I can to live according to the purpose that God has created for me to be in life. It really is that simple. I know that as long as a stay in HIS plan and purpose then everything will work out in the long run. Romans 8:28 is my personal scripture for this new year now more than ever.

Hi Emily,
I love your One Word FOCUS for 2014. My sweet friend Rachel Olsen co-authored this fabulous book with her pastor Mike Ashcraft. Here’s the link if you’re interested in reading it. http://www.amazon.com/My-One-Word-Change-Your/dp/0310318777/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1388868464&sr=1-1&keywords=my+one+word+by+mike+ashcraft
Thanks, Zoe. I’ll check it out.
Patience.
Focus is also my word, Emily. Your perspective on it…focusing on big moments and not getting lost in the details really resonated with me….even to the point of thinking I need to revise my goals for my word.
Looking forward to exploring the links you shared! Thank you
My word is courage – we’re adopting, have health issues we’re working through, and need more courage for simply putting myself out there, trying new things, and living a fuller life.
My kids chose words too – 4 year old chose “can,” 8 year old chose “responsible,” and my 11 year old chose “do.”
Love that your kids choose their own words. That would be interesting to hear :) Hope 2014 is a great year for you and your family!
Hi, Emily. The horizontal stripe curtains are a big hit right now! I continue to get requests for them. We have them at windowsbymelissa.com for a similar price as pottery barn, but you can customize your color!

Melissa–Thanks for the reminder. I actually like the width of the stripes of the ones you make.

I’m having a hard time coming up with just 1 word! I do love your word. — I may have to copy or peruse a thesaurus!
THANK YOU for the horizontal striped curtain info! I’ve been looking for the for months since I cam across Nester’s living room. I will be sure to check out Melissa’s as well. I am totally doing the happy dance right now!
