If you’ve read my blog for any time, you know that my favorite kind of makeover is one that is simple but provides a big impact. This staircase project fits the bill. Homeowners Kellie and Marc took a standard—pretty traditional—staircase and made a few changes for a modern update.
Smart idea: Saw the caps off of the post for a sleeker look.

Kellie and Marc Soileau’s home is featured in this new decorating book, but I first spotted the staircase on Kelly’s sister’s blog, Maggie Overby Studios. (You’ll love her site.)
Hi Emily:
I love that wall with all the art work and pictures! I am a mother of six and absolutely love all the artworkk they have brought home over the years and have made a hall of fame in the upstairs hallway – I still have so many more to frame! But it is so happy and colorful walking thru and admiring their work (they are 13-23 now)!!

I loved that, too. I’m sure neither one of us has a shortage of original artwork to use :)
love the makeover!
RemInds me of Christmas Vacation when Clark saws the cap off with a chainsaw! Lol
That gives me a totally new perspective on this project.
“Fixed the newel post!”
I have those same caps and never thought to saw them off. Genius!
Me either Anne. Huge oversight, Emily is right, the smallest things can make such a big impact.
Amazing how a small change can make such an impact. Love the pictures on the wall too.
