I recently switched the frames around in our powder room and wanted something big on the wall above our toilet since that’s what you see first. I decided to continue with the circus “theme” I had going with the other art and searched Ebay for a circus poster. There’s a wide range of prices, depending on what you’re looking for and what you’re willing to spend. (I was looking for big and cheap.) I found this poster for around $15 and loved how simple and bold it was all at the same time.
And, I loved that it wasn’t shiny and new. The seller said it’s from 1959, and since I wasn’t sure how much “handling” it could handle, I decided to forego a frame and just tacked it right up on the wall. I think it works with an old poster. (Plus, I like this look. I blogged about it here.)
I like the little details, like the union stamp:
And, every time I use my powder room, I think of the book Water for Elephants that I finally read last year. I never saw the movie, but the book gave me a whole new perspective on the circus. . . :)
I love the worn little details. If only it came with Robert Pattinson :)
I love this…..not to be rude…but considering we use the bathroom everyday….I think more bathrooms should be decorated!

Emily, you always have such amazing ideas. This is something I would’ve never thought of, but it looks great and I LOVE the large wall hangings in a smaller space!
I’ve always wanted to use ferris wheel and state fair art in a bathroom; but I kept passing on the idea thinking it might be weird to decorate a bathroom with that. Watching you add your circus art has made me feel like either (1) we’re both weird, haha or (2) it’s not so weird after all!! Even if it wasn’t circus themed, I love how that big poster looks in your powder room :)
#1 might be a possibility :)
(Loved your Christmas card, btw!)
i love how this looks and the movie was great.
I finally read that book last summer too and loved it. The movie didn’t really hold my interest, but I think of the circus in an entirely new (fond) way now.
I usually LOVE your ideas and decor but this one fell flat for me.
I love a decorated bathroom but I think this borders more on kitschy.
I feel like it comes out of left field. Sorry.
I only say this because if it were me I’d want the good the bad and the ugly.
Also I was happy to see the return of your orange ik at rug in the office :)
I really like this. Powder rooms are so tiny, & lots of tiny things in them make me feel like my eyes are searching for a focal pointing on which to rest. Your bold poster does the trick nicely. It is the undisputed center of attention in your photos, and brings a smile with its lightheartedness.
I love this look! I especially like how poster looks next to the striped box.
I just had to leave a comment after the naysayer above – I think this is FABULOUS! You have a very refined, sophisticated aesthetic which is exactly WHY this is even more perfect. Every house needs something unexpected, and with a house full of kiddos, no doubt it often feels like a circus, so totally appropriate, no? Of course, I do have a fondness for kitschy, so maybe that’s why my heart flutters so…who knew that was a BAD thing… In any case, ROCK ON, Emily!!
Thanks, Rebecca :) And, yes–circus totally fits the feel of our house most days.
I love the pop of color but the bold simple text! Great way to hang it.. anything more fussy and it wouldn’t have the charm!
That bathroom just keeps getting better!
I’m such a fan of vintage art/posters, so I LOVE this! It adds so much personality to the room. And, isn’t EBay such a great resource for bringing the vision in your head to fruition?! I can always find the most random and specific things there. Well done.
Love it Emily, so unique and collected feeling! Hope all is well, stay warm and healthy! xo Nancy
Love this! I would have never thought to hang something like this in a bathroom, but it looks amazing!
I absolutely love the idea of incorporating circus art in your powder room! It adds a whimsical and playful touch to the space, creating a unique and memorable experience for guests. The vibrant colors and vintage-inspired artwork truly bring the room to life. It would be interesting to learn more about the inspiration behind this design choice and how it ties into the overall theme or concept of your home. Additionally, sharing some tips on sourcing and selecting the right circus art pieces, as well as how to effectively integrate them into the existing decor, would be valuable for readers who are looking to embark on a similar creative journey. Overall, your powder room is a true testament to the power of art in transforming and personalizing a space. Well done!
