Since the spot by the windows in our master bedroom is no longer filled with baby cribs, I had to decide how we were going to use that space. I went back and forth between adding a big, comfy sofa or a desk. In the end, I decided that I didn’t need to encourage more congregating in our room than already happens, so I went with the desk.
Not beautiful, but this one (found at a local consignment store) was the right price and size with classic lines:
This was an easy project. After wiping it down, I lightly sanded the top and used one coat of primer and two coats of black gloss paint:
My favorite part of this makeover is the brass ring pull I found on Ebay for $12. I think it gives the desk a completely different look:
Yes, that beautiful pull completely takes the whole piece up a few notches! I know you’ll enjoy your desk nook!
Oh my gosh. So beautiful! LOVE that drawer pull. Nice work! Fun (and simple) transformation.

Thanks, Jen :) That pull was a lucky find.
That is beautiful and looks like it came out of a showroom. The pull makes all the difference. Also, I love me some stone busts.

Ha! Me, too :)
Dang it girl…I love that brass pull! The whole shebang is pretty awesome!
I had to scroll up to see if it actually was the same desk; the pull totally makes a difference! Looks great!
I love it. That pulls makes all the difference in the world. I’m kind of happy to see brass coming back. So warm.
It turned out beautiful! I love the black and the hardware selection!!
What a great transformation and addition to your room! Love the way it came out :)
Totally agree Emily! Now you’ve got an equally nice perch to go along with your awesome creativity!
That brass ring makes me want to makeover my desk that has very similar lines! I didn’t think about new hardware! And where did you find that chair? Beautiful!
Consignment shop, of course. $25! I actually saw something that looked similar at IKEA not too long ago, though…
It’s so pretty and I adore the brass ring pull
Hi Emily…
I’ve been looking for a white bust like the one you show on your desk. Could you share a source?
Thanks so much!
Another great consignment store find :)
It looks great! Especially love the pull. I’ll have to keep Etsy in mind when I need to look for pulls-I find that a rather challenging aspect of redesigning.
Looks beautiful Emily ) Of course, I love the black and gold. xo Kristin
Stunning transformation. I love the brass handle too. Any hardware with a ring on it catches my eye lately
I love it , how fun and you totally amaze me with what you are able to do with babies. Great desk area. Hugs, Marty
You’re right…the brass pull changes it completely. Great job!
Agree with what everyone else (and you!) said – the pull makes it. So pretty!
yes, love the pull and that you painted it black. it looks beautiful in front of the windows.
Your brass pull is the perfect timeless detail! I love the natural rattan with the black, too!
Looks awesome!!
I love it the table is chic.
It looks fabulous…and the pull “makes” it. I love the wicker chair paired with it.
Love the desk, especially the brass pull you found. I also love the chair that you put with the desk.
Kristi
What great bones this desk had – you really gave it new life! Love the pull!
Amazing transformation! Emily, you have a special talent to envision what a piece of furniture can become; in the words of Linus “All it needs is a little love”. Super great job!
The brass ring pull makes a simple desk fabulous! Perfect!!
It is beautiful and fits perfectly in that space! I love all those windows in your bedroom! Mine only has one small window and is very dark. It’s great for resting but I would love more light!
Blessings,
Kayla

You are so right about the ring pull. Did you already have it or buy it specifically for this desk? Amazing how something small and simple transforms the piece. Thanks for sharing your creativity.
Would you mind sharing your fave Charlotte consignment shops? I just moved to town and I need a lot of furniture on a very small budget!
This desk turned out gorgeous. And I love that you said “now that it doesn’t have a baby crib in it”. Sweet sorrow.
Love it! Turned out great!!!
Wow, it’s stunning! And you’re right– the pull totally makes it! Thanks for sharing, Emily!

Really love this! I just finished painting a dresser and that 3rd tip kills me every time! Perfectionism, as I’ve learned over and over again, is a terrible quality when it comes to DIY painting!
