A Simple Desk Makeover for Our Bedroom

November 18, 2013

bedroom desk

Since the spot by the windows in our master bedroom is no longer filled with baby cribs, I had to decide how we were going to use that space.  I went back and forth between adding a big, comfy sofa or a desk.  In the end, I decided that I didn’t need to encourage more congregating in our room than already happens, so I went with the desk.

Not beautiful, but this one (found at a local consignment store) was the right price and size with classic lines:

desk before

thrift store desk

This was an easy project.  After wiping it down, I lightly sanded the top and used one coat of primer and two coats of black gloss paint:

My favorite part of this makeover is the brass ring pull I found on Ebay for $12.  I think it gives the desk a completely different look:

That is beautiful and looks like it came out of a showroom. The pull makes all the difference. Also, I love me some stone busts.

Consignment shop, of course. $25! I actually saw something that looked similar at IKEA not too long ago, though…

    Hi Emily…
I’ve been looking for a white bust like the one you show on your desk. Could you share a source?
    Thanks so much!

It looks great! Especially love the pull. I’ll have to keep Etsy in mind when I need to look for pulls-I find that a rather challenging aspect of redesigning.

Really love this! I just finished painting a dresser and that 3rd tip kills me every time! Perfectionism, as I’ve learned over and over again, is a terrible quality when it comes to DIY painting!
