On the fiddle leaf fig tree bandwagon.
After being tipped off by the Nester last week that they were going for $12 at IKEA, I decided to try my luck. It’s so big and healthy—for now. And, I love the combination of the charcoal, white and green by my front door.
I think I’ll let it hang out in this corner of my office, too, so that it gets better direct sunlight:
Have you tried a fiddle leaf in your home yet?
Love it, Emily. It is such a gorgeous plant!
I love the plant. I’ve never had one. Loving the square basket that you have it in and I wouldn’t keep it by the door when it gets cold outside. Good luck!
It looks beautiful!!!!
I also wanted to mention that your photos don’t show up in feedly reader. Is that on purpose? I have no problem with photos from other blogs, so I just wondered…
Hmmm…I don’t use Feedly so I have no idea. Anybody else know?
I use Feedly and haven’t noticed a problem with your site. Sometimes mine just loads slow.
I bought one at the beginning of the year, and now have 3 going strong! Just don’t overwater… Yours looks beautiful and that’s such a great basket!
Hi Emily! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now but never commented. I LOVE your style. With 2 small children, I fully appreciate your ability to style & decorate a room that looks great but is still “livable” with the tiny tornadoes that are our children! I loved your fall mantel that you posted last week, which brings me to my question — what is a great way to style a mantel in a family room with a 2 story ceiling height of 18′? The TV is hung on another wall, and the third wall in the room has 2 rows of 4 double hung windows, so there is a lot of light, which I love! But the mantle? I’m clueless! A large clock? A large, tall mirror? A large art piece that I am afraid I will get bored of? We just bought a house with these great ceilings but I am out of my comfort zone with decorating them! I want to accentuate them, not ignore them! Just a request for a post on this topic — which I know your list is probably extremely long!
Hi Megan–I blogged about this here:

Hope it helps!
Beautioful plant- I hope you have better luck than I did! My Ikea fiddle leaf fig died within 4 months. Maybe it wasn’t in a sunny enough place?
I definitely need to work on incorporating some indoor plants…I love these Fiddle Leaves! http://www.styleoyster.blogspot.com
Oh…I love it! I recently bought a fiddle leaf fig in more of a tree version…at Lowes.
After reading up on care…I found most important care tips are not overwatering and lots of indirect light. Mine is still happy and alive…good luck!
It looks fabulous. Such a great plant. I need to try again, mine died. I would love for you to link up to Inspire Me this afternoon. Party goes live at 2:30 PT. http://www.astrollthrulife.net Hope to see you there. Hugs, Marty
It looks so good! I wish I could get one but I’m afraid my kitten will eat it and they’re poisonous to animals (and kids)!
Looks great! I went by Ikea and Home Depot this Saturday and didn’t see them in either place. A few weeks ago I passed on the Ikea one and have regreted it since. I guess if it’s meant to be….
I *loved* my fiddle leaf plant. I also got mine from Ikea for $12—what a great deal! Sadly, I haven’t been able to keep it alive despite my best efforts :-/ Had it for almost a year. Sigh. I hope you have better luck with yours! I have a brown thumb!
Yup, just recently too, grabbed mine for a bargain price of $4.00 from Walmart! So far their holding up, no direct sunlight for my beauts and got them the spa pots from walmart too! If your interested in checking it out, I posted about it here…http://buhayatbahay.blogspot.com/2013/09/fiddle-leaf-fig-bargain-breakfast-area.html
Enjoy your lovelies Emily, they look great in your home but I think any plant would look great in your beautiful spaces!
I got one at Home Depot last fall and it is barely hanging on. It spent all summer on the front porch in hopes that that would help but it really hasn’t. Right away it dropped a ton of leaves. Now it’s hanging on to the ones if has but they are much yellower than yours and zero new growth. Than goodness it was only $11. Maybe I’ll check my IKEA and try my luck again.
I love the fiddle leaf fig, but I’ve had a heck of a time trying to keep mine alive.
I also got mine from Ikea a few months back, and it nearly died immediately. I read A LOT about them, and they really don’t do well with any big changes in environment – temperature, light, water, etc. I think the car ride home was what actually made it freak out – dropping almost half it’s leaves. The leaf drop has slowed (fingers crossed that it’s stopped completely) but as long as you keep it in a sunny spot, and don’t over water, I think you’ll be ok – even if it does drop some of it’s leaves! I read that you have to wait until the soil completely dries out, and then do a deep water. For ours, I’ve found that one deep water every two weeks or so has worked well!
Good luck!!!
Love the basket its in look fantastic! I tried a couple of weeks ago to get one of these Fiddle’s from Ikea on our trip to San Fransisco (no Ikeas anywhere near where I live) and both stores were sold out! I guess these baby’s just fly out of the store as soon as they get them in. But I did find a couple in a unexpected place, Home Depot! And they were cheaper than Ikea. Who would have thought? You can read all about it here if you want lol… http://jslatelydesign.blogspot.com/2013/10/fiddle-leaf-fig-tree-is-home-and.html
Awww man! I want one soooo bad. But we are not close to an Ikea and I don’t really have a good spot for it anyway. I have fiddle tree envy!
I love them. I am not sure how well they do, so now I can watch you and your plant to see how it goes. I kill most house plants.
Love it! That photo of your foyer looks like my new biz card!!
I’ve had one for about a year now and still really love it! They just bring so much personality to a space. Yours is beautiful in that basket and should do well in front of the window!
I got both of my fiddle leaf figs at Ikea and love them! I got my first one in May and just bought my second one in September. I can’t believe how much they’ve grown. And I can’t believe I’ve actually kept them alive and healthy. I’ve heard they’re difficult to maintain but I seemed to have found my green thumb. I have to admit that I pay particular attention to them.
So beatiful! I don’t know why, but I LOVE LOVE the look of it in the office. It’s like the plant is begging for sun b/c it looks so happy there (yes I just gave a plant personality).
Wow, didn’t know they were poisonous. I’ve got a two year old so hopefully he won’t eat the leaves!
Emily, did you ‘re-pot it? I’d highly recommend you doing so if you didn’t. The tree I got from home depot was almost root bound. I just used miracle grow potting soil and put in a pot with good drainage.
Good luck. I’ve had mine a few months, still going strong.

I’m green with envy ;) I can’t find one anywhere around here!
Ahhh!!!!! I need to get to Ikea! Looks fabulous!
Who knew we could all be so obsessed with a plant?!
I chickened out when I found one a couple of weeks ago. It was gorgeous but for $100 I was scared to kill it and passed :(
I have not bought one yet but have been planning to head to IKEA! Glad to know they are still there!
I bought two 5 footers from a local green house about 9 months ago. Knock on wood, theyre both still going strong! they get a ton of light so i think that helps. good luck with yours! fingers crossed
That’s much bigger than what I thought would be at IKEA for $12! A few days ago, I headed into the big city to visit Home Depot and IKEA to find one. But, on a whim, I dropped in on a big discount chain gardening store and they had TONS of beautiful, full, multi branch plans for $6. My place has poor light, due to some large shade trees, so my little fiddle fig has been hanging out in my kitchen. Odd place, but it’s the brightest. :) I’m in love with it, and at $6, it’s something I can afford to experiment with and know my big discount store keeps lots in stock.
I was decorating with fake plants until I started following your blog. I am going to try to buy some real plants and see if I can keep them alive. I hope this one is a hardy plant!
I’ve not seen this plant before but it really is beautiful. I have been afraid to bring plants inside because of my cat but I don’t think he’d bother such big leaves.
Ok, I love these and have been dying to try one in my home, but the space I want to put it only gets indirect light. Boo.
Yours looks perfect!
xo Heidi
I have a few that look a little sad…they definitely need light!
I want everything in that room.
The end.
Great photos – they make me want to go get one of those fiddle leaf plants even though I am hopeless when it comes to keeping plants
I love the plant! A little green always gives a space added warmth! Erin
That plant is gorgeous and just what I need in my office area. Pity we don’t have IKEA here. I’m tempted to go and visit my nursery, quite a few of my rooms need new greenery.
Have a great day now

I picked up 2 from IKEA last week and really hope I can keep them alive! So far one of them has dropped about 10 leaves so it got moved outside to the sunlight!
I wish IKEA wasn’t so far away! I have to drive to Cincinnati to get to one.. Louisville, Kentucky needs to be next on their list. If I WAS close, I would also be jumping on the bandwagon :)
It looks SO GOOD against that striped wall!
love the plant and basket, gotta make an ikea trip asap!! Where did you get the basket?
I love an indoor plant and almost bought one from Ikea a few months ago but they were looking a little shabby then. Now I don’t know if I should jump on the bandwagon or not. They’re really nice though!
You can check Home Depot they might have them in your area. Otherwise they sell them on-line.
