You’ve heard of the one that got away? For me, it was a beautiful brass bar cart at a local thrift store a few weeks ago. I stood and stared at it for a long time, and despite its $75 price tag, I walked away, deciding a bar cart in this house would probably end up being used as a climbing apparatus.

But, I kept thinking about it so I went back only to learn that it had been sold to a TV crew for the show Homeland that they film parts of here in my town. Well, that only made me want it more. . .
Now, I’m kicking myself for not buying and storing it away to pull out and use for a fun, portable coffee bar when we have company. . . (kind of like we did here.)
I just saw this one and kind of like the clean lines and the fact that it’s small enough to be tucked away in a corner. (I think it could also be fun to use as a little powder room side table.)
The price is pretty good, but of course, I’m still grieving over the thrift store bargain that I missed. I have to get over it.
Do you own a bar cart? Will you come over for coffee if I get it?
I understand, and do that all the time. I don’t own a bar cart, and of course I would come over for coffee. Now I want one.
Very cute! I don’t have a bar cart, but I just revealed my coffee bar yesterday. It is nice to have everything in one spot when guests are over. I’d love to have a bar cart in the dining room since it’s too small for a sideboard. There’s so much you could do with it.
I saw the Threshold one this weekend and had to do a double take. It’s really nice in person and you’re right – the price is really good. I’m thinking of picking one up myself.
I don’t have a bar cart (we use a sideboard) but love the look of them. Gotta say… I love Homeland and now, when I’m watching, I’ll be looking for your bar cart ;)
Oh, I hate it when I second guess, then come to my senses, then return to find the item gone! I’ve done that many times, but you just have to move on and wait for the next great thing.
I don’t own one, but love that first image! I would definitely come over for coffee if you get one! :) I think that’s a great use for it. I also keep remembering the gold mirror I wish I bought this summer at an antique market. I am still kicking myself for that one, so I feel your pain!
I’m in love with that same bar cart from Target! I love it but I couldn’t justify the price, especially after I found a few on Craigslist that just needed a little love for a fraction of the cost. We ended up finding one last week and made a two hour trip to pick it up…just posted about it today in fact!

I would love a bar cart! I’m going to be on the look out now! Cheers!
Bummer! This exact thing happened to me this summer with a rattan bar cart at Black Dog Salvage. What in the world was I thinking to have walked out without it?! :)
Bummer! Was that in Charlotte? I work in Charlotte each week and have been searching for antique places to shop?
I hate when that happens!! That’s the worst. Too bad you can’t get in touch with someone on the Homeland crew and purchase it from them when they are done filming. ;) Maybe someone is reading your blog and will reach out to you! I’ve been contemplating over that Threshold bar cart. It’s soo tempting!!
Funny, I just ordered this exact bar cart yesterday. With a house full of three young kids I’ll share pics once its filled with Barbies and trucks, just to make you feel a bit better about the one that got away!!!
Oh I’ve had many of those instances too. I can sympathize! :)
That is sooo funny to see this post this morning. I just posted about the same thing today. I did the same thing but then went back and bought it.
This is timely. Saw that on IG yesterday and it made me think . . nowhere to have a true bar cart here with kiddos but maybe a coffee bar would be darling. More my speed is to have a rolling craft cart for the kids! ;)
I love bar carts, but with a little one running around and climbing it will be a while before my house one, however I have a spot in my kitchen that might work for a counter top bar area :)
I am a sucker for a well-styled bar cart. So Mad Men. I would definitely come over for coffee (or cocktail :) I’ll be on the look-out locally for you.
We passed one up the other day, but I’m glad we did. It was TOO big…the one at the top of your post is perfect! And, of course, Target comes to the rescue again. :) I think I may have to bite the bullet on that one!
I have always wanted a vintage one but just called Target and they are holding the last one for me.. does it look nice in person?
I have done the same thing. I think we all have at one time in our lives. We grieve and morn! Grab the one you just found! It will work perfectly and you will never miss the one that got away!
I like your new find anyway- the wood and gold combo is cool. We’ll have to keep an eye out for your one that got away on the next few episodes of HomeLand! Wonder what they do with stuff after the shoot is over?!
I was fortunate enough to find that bar cart at our local Target. Snagged it in a heartbeat. Very sturdy and looks high end (looks fabulous with our PB dining furniture). While we don’t have little ones in our home, I don’t like to pack a cart with a ton of bottles (who has time to dust all those?). I added just a few things to ours (frame with a wine saying, a candle, a bowl of chocolates, sparkling waters, etc). I love that I can switch it out for the seasons and different parties.
I just made my own Emily (will share it Sunday)and Lisa over at Shine your Light just made one too! But I agree with you, I would be grieving for that one that got away… You’ll find one soon, just be patient, although the one from Target is pretty cute too!
I don’t own a bar cart but I’ve been on the hunt for one. No bargains have turned up at my local thrift haunts yet. Fingers crossed for both of us!
I have one for sale !! If any of you are in Northwest Illinois and interested e-mail me ! Ballard’s has a cool one but pricey.

I’ve been very tempted by that same bar cart to use as a bedside table in the master bedroom at the beach!
Just brought mine home! NO REGRETS. Had two women stop me in Target to gawww over it. Got the last one. I’m sure they are running to other Target’s to get one. Looks AMAZING in person. very nice dark brushed brass and wood is a nice tone. LOVE.. Thank you for highlighting this.
Uh-oh! I had one in our living room for years (when our decor was teal and rose), then sold it because it looked “dated.” Now it would have been back in style! Where was my crystal ball to know these things??
You should contact the Homeland crew and buy it from them when they’re done with it, at a deep discount. :)
That brass bar cart is gorgeous. I hope you find another. And I would totally come over for coffee if you had a stunning bar cart and if I lived in the same city, state, or country :) Unfortunately, Toronto isn’t that nearby.
LOVE the idea of a coffee bar cart! I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect antique tray to set up a coffee/tea bar. The truth is, I drink more coffee and tea than cocktails, so this makes total sense to me!
I hate that feeling… but I think you’ll find something that you like even more… or maybe you will (somehow) come across it again!
I’ve been hunting for a bar cart for months and when i saw that one pop up at Target, i pounced! it just arrived today too. it is great! i cant wait to start stlying it :) good luck on your hunt for one
I’ve been dying for one ever since we moved in our new house with our huge dining room. I love them. I have been torn between an antique mahogany one or what I’d really like – a gold one. I’m just not sure how the gold will fit in with my antique dining furniture… although I’d like to steer away from the antique look (without getting rid of family heirloom furniture). How’s that for a dilemma?
I just bought that Target bar cart and it came today! I love it! I say go for it.
I’ve been wanting one for a while! I probably would have let a $75 goodwill one slip through my fingers also . . . . and I will totally come over if you get one. haha. I’m in Greenville, SC so I think it might be possible.
xo ellie.
ps maybe you’ll see the cart that got away on TV? will that make you feel better or worse?
I saw that Threshold Bar Cart online and thought it would be perfect but I then went to Target and the one on display at the front bar bent down into a ‘V’ and I knew it wasn’t meant to be that way. I ended up walking away empty handed:( I guess the metal is pretty flimsy which is a shame because the lines are very nice. It’s expected but I don’t know why they would display damaged goods.
I love my bar cart, but it is kind of dangerous with little ones. Isn’t it funny how we can only mildly want something and then someone else gets it and we then decide it was our dream purchase that got away…I can’t imagine the feelings knowing a TV crew took it and it could be on television! :)
I’m sure something even better will come along, can’t wait to see what you decide!
I recently bought a bar cart at one of my favorite thrift stores and I love it! It’s small, bamboo-esque with glass shelves.
Awesome use of those mobile shelving configurations as coffee shelves! I had no idea mobile carts could look so cool! Thanks for all the great ideas!
I’m weeping with you, Emily. I’ve left plenty of things behind only to regret it later. I hope you are able to find something just as nice. The one from Target is a fave of mine too. If I didn’t have one I’d snatch it up.
I have been looking for a vintage (and affordable) bar cart for awhile. No luck yet, but I’m having fun pinning my ideas to Pinterest. I sympathize with you for ‘the one that got away’. I think we’ve all been there. It wasn’t meant to be… another opportunity to will come along.
