I’ve always liked the look of decorating with classic blue and white accessories, but thought it was a pretty specific look and wasn’t sure how it would fit in with the rest of our house. I recently came across some great deals on several pieces, and decided to give it a try. For now, some of it has landed on our piano, and I love the way it works with the green botanicals and charcoal stripes.
(I found mine at a thrift store, but just saw that One Kings Lane has several blue & white jars and vases listed right now at pretty reasonable prices.)
I’ve also added a few other touches of blue and white in our living room:

Have you used many blue and white accessories in your home? Do you also find that they seem to work in almost every room where you put them?
Oh yes, but I’m new at collecting them. Mine started too with a thrift store lamp and I’m sure to build on them as time goes on. :-)
I see blue and white accessories as a neutral that can go in just about any space. I have several pieces in my living and dining rooms that I’ve picked up at thrift stores, too. In fact, I have that same “fat” ginger jar that you have. Enjoy them! They look great :)
I just have blue and white in the living room. A framed quilt square over the fireplace and a quilt draped over the back of the couch both from 1820, some 100 year old commemorative dishes from my college, a stack of books on blue and white decorating, 10 small blue and white china boxes on a side table, three yard sale vases on the mantel and two very large ginger jar lamps ($35 at a blue and white discount store that I had nade into lamps for $125. Similar ones were #600 each). I recommend finding all the books on blue and white decorating.
Hi there. I have several pieces of Royal Copenhagan and Bing and Grondahl pieces handed down to me from my grandma–and I”ll be honest, I’ve struggled to work with my more casual and a bit eclectic style. But I’m inspired to give it another go!
I have it everywhere and love it. To me, blue and white is like a pair of jeans, or a classic black dress – it will go with everything.
I agree with Elizabeth!!! Classic decorating staple! I have a ton and keep getting more. You can never have too much ;)
I have blue and white on my family room mantel, foyer table and dining room. I love, love, love them.

love it! been looking for one of those ginger jars while thrifting! your home is beautiful! :)
I started a collection of blue and white double happiness pots a few years ago when we updated our dining room. We just reno’d our kitchen and the living room is next…the blue and white collection will be expanding into those rooms too :)
I haven’t started collecting blue and white yet … but finding that I agree with Elizabeth, where I thought it didn’t Mix for me … it will and I must begin!! xo
I think it mixing in beautifully! I love your touches here and there!
mixes – not mixing
I’ve always used blue and white jars/vases in at least one room since my first apartment. Right now, only my kitchen is blue and white. It’s hard not to let it spillover to my living room. I think they can go in almost any room.
My style is definitely not traditional, but I love my blue and white jars on my mantle. They really do work great with any style. The problem is finding them at reasonable prices!
Most of my flower pots are blue and white, or just cobalt blue. I got them from Ross for the most part. I find them very universal to use! Cobalt/navy blue is one of the colors that flows through my home, so I’m sure that helps.
I just bought a blue and white ginger jar at the thrift store a few weeks ago and bought it with the intention of painting it. As I was getting ready to spray it I thought, “I wonder how it will fit in if I just left it” and I really like it! I love your grouping on the piano! Looks so classic, yet the stripes modernize it!
Your blue and white looks beautiful — fantastic styling! Thank you so much for including my prints, Emily!
You’re very welcome. You always come to mind when I think of blue and white :)
Is there anything” Blue & White” porcelians do not work with? For me they have become almost a neutral, and work just about everywhere.
I am addicted!
Love the blue and white! I can never find good pieces like that!

Looks great! I had packed mine up and was getting ready to haul off one day and thought, you know, i might like this again sometime and guess what…i’m digging it out!
Love this look! So classic and a nice contrast to add to more modern and contemporary decor.
Thank you so much for including my blue & white painting! :) Such a nice surprise!
You’re welcome! Glad I found your Etsy shop.
I’m inspired! Love how the blue and white help create a classic look
The blue and white looks great. I’m inspired to try this myself. I have always loved using green in my rooms, but I have just started using blues.
Thanks.
Kristi
I am obsessed with blue and white. I have at least 100 pieces, more than I can reasonably use in a house of any size, unless I put them all in shelves. I cannot help but buy when I see a quality piece at an antique store or flea market. Then I rotate out something I’ve had a while to bring a new one in.
Great post Emily. I agree with a lot of your other readers – I think of blue and white vases, chinoiserie, etc. as working as neutrals that will go with just about anything. Our new house has blue and white tile around the fireplace and my initial thought was to replace it because I don’t have any other blue in the room but the more that I gradually decorate the room, I’m finding that it’s working with the other colors in the room much better than I would have thought!
Hobby Lobby has a great collection of blue and white and they are 50% off this week!

oooh I missed this post last week. I love blue and white…specifically the Delftware. I actually just posted a blog with photos of my daughters nursery and it’s done in blue and white and yellow. Love the photos you have shared here! Check out the post if you have time! http://www.mendezmanor.com/2013/08/olivias-blue-white-nursery.html
Well now I’m kicking myself, because I was just at a flea market and they had a bunch of ginger jars and few other blue and white accessories. I sheepishly passed on them thinking they wouldn’t work with my decor. I’m headed back there tomorrow, fingers crossed they are still available.

I have been adding blue and white to our new home thanks to you. Pier 1 has quite a few good options, including the most adorable salt and pepper shakers! I bought them today and thought of you and then I felt creepy since we really don’t know each other. Oh how blogs have changed the world.

I don’t think it’s creepy at all–especially since you just found my new salt and pepper shakers for me :) Love those.
