I still get a lot of questions about my oldest daughter’s room in our last house. She was only three at the time and had fewer opinions …..
I designed it around the simple idea of taking a smaller pattern–a polka dot pillow–and repeating it on a larger scale—the polka dot focal wall. Instead of investing the time or money in a wallpaper she might outgrow, I used inexpensive wall decals to create the pattern. I did a post with more details and sources here.
(I once saw a similar idea where they had created a focal wall using the pattern from the little girl’s favorite dress, but can’t find the picture anywhere now. . . Love that idea, though!)
