Last week, a bunch of boxes arrived from Pottery Barn Kids.
For a minute, it felt like Christmas morning. Then, I remembered all of the work I had ahead of me in a short amount of time. Then, it felt more like Christmas morning meets HGTV’s Design Star (except I get cuter stuff to work with and don’t have cameras filming any meltdowns I may or may not have. . .).
I’m one of six bloggers participating in the Pottery Barn Kids & PBS Kids Summer Book Nook Challenge. Here’s how it works: I was able to choose several items from a list of PB Kids products that I’ll use to create a summer reading nook for my kids. Once the space is finished, they’ll post all of the bloggers’ book nooks and you’ll get to vote for the one you like the best. Just a little friendly competition, with the winner receiving a $500 Pottery Barn gift card to give away to one of their readers! See, this could work out well for both of us :)
I let my kids pick out the three books we received, and this was what they chose.
In the meantime, I have one week to create and photograph my book nook. Since I’m almost out of “nooks” around here, I’m using this wall in the nursery:
The rest of the room will look continue to look like this for the next seven days while I work:
If you follow me on Instagram (@emilyaclark), you know that I officially started yesterday, getting one of the biggest tasks on my to-do list out of the way.
I’ll show you the full wall later this week, and give you an update on my progress. I’ve also created a Pinterest board with inspiration photos (and the products I received) for this challenge, if you’d like to follow along.
How fun!! I already know its going to be great, what special spot for you and the kids to hang out in over the Summer with the babies :)
Loving all your inspiration pins- I can tell it’s going to be good! And thanks for always showing the honest state of your rooms even when they don’t look pretty. It makes the rest of us feel normal :)
How fun and exciting. I can’t wait to see the finished space. I’m following you on Instagram now.

Your completed reading nook will be my inspiration for my granddaughter’s nook in her bedroom. Love your navy stenciling. Hope to find that pattern.

As a family who has never had cable, PBS Kids and library books are like PB&J at our house – can’t live w/o ’em! Can’t wait to see your reveal!
Fun Stuff Emily! Although I realize a deadline (& a stencil) kinda sucks the fun out of it. It will be amazing when completed though! Best of luck.
