A Painted Striped Floor

June 11, 2013

painting stripes on hardwood floors

I stopped by a friend’s house last week, and was excited to see the newly painted striped floors in her sunroom.  Of course, I pulled out my phone and started snapping pictures for you.  (None of my friends are surprised anymore when I start fluffing their pillows and moving furniture around to get the best shot. . . )

She used two of my favorites—Shoji White and Amazing Gray (Sherwin Williams).

I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I’d ever get tired of a striped floor.

If you’re interested, I blogged about a reader who painted her hardwoods–and what she used–here.

I am not kidding when I say this. I was literally in the middle of writing a post on whether or not I should stain or paint stripes on our playroom floor, when in comes this post on my feed! The timing is unreal and I may just take that as a sign! :) Thanks for sharing these pics!!

I love this! I picked out striped cork floors for my kitchen, 2 years ago, and still smile when I look at them. http://nate-and-megs.blogspot.com/2013/04/kitchen-tour.html

I just want to curl up on one of those chairs on the porch!

I love the stripes! I used Breakthrough on my kitchen floor because of your old post. We did a diagonal checkerboard and had PPG color match for Urbane Bronze and SW Alabaster…love, love, love it! That paint is amazing and cleans up really well. We did no sanding, priming, or sealing. I was skeptical but our wood floors were in terrible shape and we were willing to give it a go before replacing it. It’s been about 6 months and so far so good. Thanks for sharing!!! Such a great product I never would have known existed without your blog.

Just wondering which paint we are seeing in the “Esther” piece as she mentions 2 different companies. Porter and Benjamin Moore. thank you

Breakthrough paint is made by Porter, and can be purchased at a Porter store. The color used, however, was a Benjamin Moore paint color that they matched for me at the Porter store :)
