I don’t usually mix in fashion with my design posts. Although the two are closely related, I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily an authority on the subject.
Yes, somehow, I’ve slowly morphed into one of those “before” photos of the overworked moms they used to make over on Oprah. It’s not that I want to look like this necessarily. And, it’s not that I don’t know how to do better. (Well, I like to think that I do.) I have a dirty job, and this is the uniform that it calls for—most days.
But, there are occasionally times during my week that I need to look like a “real person.” There is, however, little time to shop these days. Which brings me to the point of this post. . .
I was recently approached by a company who does some of the shopping for you. Golden Tote was started by two LA designers/buyers and offers two week-long, curated sales each month. You get to choose part of what you receive, while the rest is a surprise. It’s like a little goody bag of designer fashions delivered to your door.
(Some of my favorites currently on their site)
After you choose a two-item tote or a 6-7 item tote, you’ll receive clothing based on your size and style profile that you can create on the site.
Here’s how it works:
If you’d like to be notified of the two monthly sales, you can sign up here. It’s quick– just requires an email address and that you create a password.
I’d love to hear about what you get, if you end up ordering a tote :) I might be motivated to ditch my gray sweatshirt and put on something fancy. . .
Hi Emily,
I love the choices you made and you deserve to treat yourself! Moms don’t do that often enough. I went to the site and McAfee would not let me and advised me as the site is risky. Thought you should know.
Take care!
Thanks for letting me know. I forwarded your comment and they said it could be restricting access if you have your security settings set up so strict that they block sites that have anything to do with credit card info, shopping, etc…. Not sure if this is what’s going on, but they were able to try to it out on their end with several different browsers without a problem.
What a smart idea!
Love your choices for Mommy clothes… so chic and comfy.
Chic??? Okay, I’ll take it, anyway :)
I LOVE Golden Tote. It is a fantastic concept, I’ve done it twice and loved all of the clothes I received. the first one I got had an amazing think blue and grey striped hoodie..it quickly became my favorite wknd shirt…its so light and soft and fitted so its stylish. I also got a beautiful green dressy sleeveless top with lace down the sides, a white cami and a nail polish and hair ties. The second tote I got a dress, a cami, and a wooden bangle….I’m not crazy about the bangle but I love the dress. I love the idea of the company and will continue ordering from them!
This is good to know. Thank you!
What a neat concept! I remember a girl (single, no kids) telling me she was annoyed with the moms in our town that wear gym clothes even though they weren’t going to the gym. I do that every day, lol. I’m not going to get dressed up to clean the toilet and I need to be comfortable. I told her to talk to me when she has kids!
I wish she could spend a day with me :)
Loving the Murray State sweatshirt!
As a new mom, I’m definitely going to have to check this out–my wardrobe is morphing quickly! :) That said, you definitely pull off your Murray State sweatshirt better than I do! Are you an alum?
Yes! Are you?
Great idea! As a mom, it’s so hard to go shopping with kiddos in tow (and even harder to actually try things on) so ordering online in the evenings is the way to go for me (I probably get the best mail / package deliveries in my neighbourhood.
A friend of mine recently asked why I was so much more “dressy” this school year. I let her know that it was because finally no one in my house had GRED, I could get more than 6 hours of sleep a night and I no longer had to change diapers! ;)
You will get there too!!!
I was so baffled when I saw the Murray State sweatshirt. I’m a MSU alum and have followed your blog for a long time!! Go Racers!!
Me, too. But, I’m sure I’m older. I graduated in ’99.
I love this idea! I love that we have more online options to shopping – can’t wait to try this…
What a unique idea! This should really be a hit, Im going to check it out!

Hi Emily,
I’d been following your blog for a while now. I love your blog and I love all the creative ideas you post.
I tried signing up for the Golden Tote but it brings me to a completely different site.
Mary Anne, I’ll get the link fixed. You can go directly to http://www.goldentote.com in the meantime. Thanks.

Love that Murray State shirt!! I have several of those myself :) Have you been back recently? There is a great store called Gate 28–love it. Super cute boutique.
I think such a site will definitely be a huge hit with moms because moms work literally round the clock 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. They really do not have any extra time at all to look pretty. That is when such a site comes in handy. I have not tried their site though, but I hope each tote is a storage of a variety of things to provide ample choices to moms.
