After we took down the ceiling fan (which was also the overhead lighting for the room) and didn’t replace it, figuring out where to put lamps in a pretty open space was a little tricky. We do have a floor outlet under the sofa, which is nice, but I wanted to add some lamps on the TV wall. Since there was no room on the white dresser, I opted for two swing arm lamps:
Nearly a year ago, I found a great deal from Home Decorators on these wall lamps:
I ordered them during one of their lighting sales, and I’m pretty sure I was able to get my trade discount on top of that. They ended up being less than $25 a piece. (They’re still available on the site, but when I last checked, they weren’t on sale.)
I ordered them in the “oil rubbed bronze” but decided to give them a makeover with Rustoleum’s metallic spray paint in brass.
When we put them up, the shade was blending into the wall, so I also added black grosgrain ribbon to the shades:
Slowly, but surely, I’m working on building a gallery wall around them:
It’s coming along beautifully. Very cohesive and stylish yet comfortable. Well done Emily.
Looks great! What a deal those lamps were

Love how they turned out!
I love those gorgeous lamps, and their cord covers too! I just put some up in my daughters room and painted the plastic cord covers to blend in with the wall. I’m looking for some nicer ones like yours for my bedroom next!
What a beautiful room! I love that you painted the sconces. And adding the trim gives it that extra custom look. What a great idea! :) Oh, the power of paint!

I love how your living room is coming along it looks so pretty! I have always been a big fan of swing lamps I feel like it always elevates the room, I guess because my Granny K had them in her beautifully decorated brownstone in Chicago.

Love those swing arm lamps! and the black ribbon was the perfect touch!
Love the lamps painted brass….may have to shamelessly copy you for my Hubby’s office. Just wondering, do they let off sufficient light?
Thanks!
Amelia

They are just right. And I love how the gallery wall is coming together!
Very nice. 2 questions: what is that wall color? and where did you get that console table behind the couch?
Thanks. It’s Amazing Gray by Sherwin Williams. I found the console on Craigslist. (I think it was originally from ZGallerie.)
I love the wall color in your living room. What is it?
I love those lamps! They look so great in brass with the black trim!
Thanks for sharing your source! I’ve noticed these in your photos before and thought they looked fantastic, you really classed them up. I’d like to add some wall lamps next to the tv in our bedroom. Great inspiration!
Those are great in that room, Emily. It all came together so well. I am looking at a lamp like that for my daughter’s room.
Amazing how YOU spray paint something BRASS and it’s so gorgeous! LOL! Looks good! How do you like the cord cover going down the wall? Not sure I would like that.
I like the black grosgrain ribbon… it makes them pop. I missed your Saturday 6. :(
They look fantastic, Emily. Love the ribbon, and your gallery wall is really coming together. I have started a little collection to create a gallery wall in our basement family room. You’ve given me a great idea with the wall sconces- thanks!
I LOVE how this looks!! It’s just what I have been wanting to do to spice up my t.v. wall. My wall is like a black hole and this is such fab inspiration!!! Was the cord itself hard to paint?
I actually ordered the cord covers that are sold separately and painted those, too.
The wall lamps you bought and redid are perfect. Love the new color and the ribbon on the shades. It looks stunning!
I love the way this area is shaping up!
I love how the lamps turned out! It all looks fantastic!

Wow! painted brass arms are amazing and the cord covers never thought of that great call and I will be using that idea since I have passed on so many wall lighting lamps because I did not want the cord hanging.
I really love these. They fit in perfectly in that spot. Love seeing this all come together.
Looks great! Makes me want to update all our lamp shades!

Love this! They look fabulous. And you can’t beat that price!
gorg!
Stunning, absolutely stunning! How I do admire your work.
I’ve been drooling over your lamps for weeks – thanks for the detail! I love them. They inspired me to buy a set of sconces for my fireplace wall and now I might just have to break out a ribbon for the shades. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, they say. :)

Love the gallery wall around your TV and the touch of black you added to your lamp shades- it really pops off of the brass color! Very chic!
Your room is looking so good Emily! Still don’t know how you do it all with 5 kids but I guess that will always be a mystery right? Everyone needs a secret. I do like the added touches of brass!

What is your wall color in this room? Thinking about going grey but can’t pick a color!
It’s Amazing Gray by Sherwin Williams.
I just found your blog, and it is such a relief that I did! This is the exact layout of our living room, and it has been very stressful trying to figure out what to do! I see this post is from almost a year ago, but I MUST know where the chair by the window is from! Or what “style you would call it if I were to search for one. Please and thank you!!
Stephanie, The white chair is the slipcovered Kivik from IKEA :)
Amazing! Thank you!
Love the room! Where did you find that awesome mirror?
It’s from Ballard Designs but they no longer sell it :(
