The canvas I ordered from here arrived a couple of weeks ago, and I just got it hung. I ended putting it in the hallway where the huge abstract used to be. Although the old painting worked great in the living room of our last house, something about it kept bothering me. It just felt too brown and orange for our house now. And, you know if something doesn’t feel right, it’s the one thing I hone in on every time I walk by it. . .
(The abstract was a deal, by the way. I found it on Craigslist several years ago for $125, so I feel like I got the good out of it. I’m not totally sure where it’s going, but I’m hanging onto it for now.)
It took me a minute to get used to the smaller scale in this spot (it’s 36×36”), but I actually think it works better. And, I must be subconsciously going with a black and white theme around here.
By the way, the painting is by Lisa Golightly, who also has an Etsy shop. I would love to use a few more of her prints around my house.
Gorgeous! What beautiful art to look at from your desk. I love it!
Looks just right. Love it!
I love the change! The art is so whimsical and pretty. I also love the new office rug. :) Off to check out the etsy shop!
Perfect love it, especially with the black rug. xT
Black and white…what a news flash?
Love the picture:)
Oooh, I really like that.
I LOVE it Emily! It looks so original and bold. Great scheme going on in your house.

The new print is more than PERFECT for that space!
Black and White…Those are My colors….Love them….Love the contrast they create and Love the way they pull a room together.
I absolutely love it. I also love “the woman in the red heels” and wish it were bigger!
You know what would be a super fun post? (Wink, wink.) You should tell us about great etsy sites for art.
I like that post idea :)
Love it!! And, I love her work!
Love it! Looks so fresh in that space. And thank you for sharing the link to her etsy shop – I’ve already perused and found several pieces that I love!
Love. And the black and white is looking so classy! Hope you’re having a great day!

Love it! Looks great in that spot.
how beautiful! it looks awesome!
I’ve seen images of your office before but how did I never notice how wonderful your desk is??!! Willing to reveal the source?
It was a Craigslist find, too, but I think they had it made.
It fits perfectly. It looks like the bathers are coming around the corner
Gorgeous! Perfect for the space. I love being introduced to new art.
Great new piece!! Fits in perfect there! And new rug? Maybe you mentioned it in another post – I’m just seeing it now…it looks great too!
No, just a very old outdoor rug I’ve had in the attic :)
I might be interested in your abstract art if you are looking for a new home for it.
Love the new art. The black and white palette feels very fresh and modern and juxtaposes nicely with some of your more traditional pieces. I find art so difficult to buy though, especially larger pieces. Its so subjective that its hard to find art that everyone in the family will enjoy.
I like the new art a lot! It suits the space well.
Hi Emily,
I had Lisa do a sketch of my girls a couple years ago and its part of my stairway gallery wall – I love it! She is so talented AND she’s from Portland!
On a separate note – I TOO am totally going towards black and white in my own home – what’s with that???????
Your art looks fabulous.

I really like Lisa Golightly as well. I also love black and white–hard to go wrong with that combo :)

You never know what is missing until you replace it with the perfect….whatever. This is perfect.
This is too much! I just did a feature on Kiki and Polly and when I saw your painting I didn’t even put it together that Lisa Golightly was the same artist. I kept thinking how similar they were but I can be dense that way sometimes. :) I love her work too and have been wanting to order that yellow bathing suit girl since I got pregnant with our girl 3 years ago. Maybe it’s finally time. Your new piece looks great and I love the black and white!

Everything looks beautiful! I especially love the wall color. Would you mind sharing what the color is? Thank you!
Sure, it’s Worldly Gray by Sherwin Williams.
thank you for introducing me to her work – might be just the thing for a current project. and your new piece looks stunning!
Before I knew much about blogs or knew who you were, I saw an image of your old living room and thought it looked so well-put-together. But I totally understand how something you loved in one home doesn’t quite work in a new home. Sometimes it’s because the color scheme is different, or simply that your tastes have evolved. Even just living in my current house for only five years, my style has changed or my colors have altered a bit so that some pieces I was so excited about at one time are now going in my yard sale next weekend. The good news is that everything that sells will allow me to buy more things that fit with what I love today!
No…No…Noooooo I loved your office the way it was. It looked so worldly and collected, not matchy decorated…
I get that maybe you grew tired of it…but whoa…I
would buy the art AND the rug in a minute…email me

I will add that I generally LOVE all of your style. But I think the office was already perfection. Sorry.
