Have you ever fallen in love with a price tag? That’s how I found our new light for the foyer.
Of course, I had to Instagram a picture (while I was at a local thrift store) so you all could tell me this was meant to be before I bought it. (It’s like shopping with friends.) I had always thought we’d put some kind of drum pendant to replace the small lantern that was there. But, an already-painted, pagoda chandelier for $34 quickly changed my vision for the space.
(I’ve put this lantern in storage to paint later. I think it might work somewhere else in our house.)
I also had to make sure that whatever we put up didn’t compete with the large lantern (that I spray painted) in our home office, since it’s all pretty much one big space.
What’s the last great deal you’ve found for your house?
Oh, I love it. A touch of Palm Beach meets Chinoiserie. So jealous of the price.
That’s funny–I would’ve never thought of that :)
$34??????!!!!!!!! that just might be the deal of the century!!!! SO JEALOUS!!!!!!! it looks BEAUTIFUL!!!
SUPER STEAL!!!!!!!!
Agh! I love it so much! Great job using the round light bulbs–that takes it to a whole new level. I can’t even believe that price. You’ve inspired me to make the rounds at my favorite resale shops today. Love everything about this space!!
xo,
Abby
That is really super, duper awesome! I am in love with faux bamboo and quite jealous of your amazing find, and at $34! Great for you!
Looks great Emily! What a great find!
Super purchase, Emily! My best find lately is the Nate Berkus lacquered tortoise shell…in the box at a thrift store for $18!
How strange someone would’ve already donated one of those pieces! I would’ve taken it back to Target for a refund :)
Wait, to clarify, I wouldn’t taken it back to Target. I would’ve kept it. But, if I were the original person who didn’t want it, I wouldn’t have donated it…
I bet it was a Christmas gift that someone didn’t want
I have got to start going to thrift stores!
I actually think it was one of the thrift stores where Target donates salvaged items. The box did have a “salvage” sticker on it. The shell was the mustard color which didn’t fit with my colors, so when I sprayed it glossy white I noticed a tiny little hairline crack. That’s probably why it was there. Doesn’t bother me, though, can’t even see it!
I love it! I wish I could find chic lanterns in our thrift stores!
Awesome find!!!
What a fun light! I love how a light can make such a statement with little effort.
I must not go to the ‘good’ ones.. sigh. I’ve found nothing lately…
Love, love, love the light. It pulls the whole room together.
I absolutely LOVE it. Great find.
That looks terrific!
OMG, dying over that light. LOVE!
Fantastic find!
I never find this kind of stuff at thrift stores either! Where do you shop? Looks fantastic!
What a great deal! It looks great!
Oh, Emily!
Thrift store G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S-N-E-S-S!
I bet you heard the angels singing on this one…. and you didn’t even have to paint it?!
Simply amazing.

That’s so funny! I found something very, very similar recently for $35, and I’d seen the exact same lamp in an upscale vintage store for $850. I did have to paint and rewire mine, though. (I could tell the ladies selling it to me were kind of baffled by my love for it, as was the electrician. Sometimes it’s hard to be a trendsetter! ;)
That Fixture looks amazing in your front hall! I love it with the stripes!
My latest thrift store find is a large green-blue demijohn jar that I found for $16 yesterday. It is the perfect color for the family room in our new house. Love!
Great find! I rarely ever see big glass pieces for that price.
So awesome! I need to thrift more often … how to do you do it with twins? I hate going with just one 2-year-old. LOL Those two fixtures look great together!
I don’t! I was just able to sneak out while my parents were in town visiting. I’m not sure that even a $35 light is worth taking a double stroller into one of those places….
I’ve been trying to find something just like that for a hallway and so far the closest I’ve come is a $280 one that needs to be rewired on eBay. Great find!
Oh my goodness! I love it! What a great find! My most recent find was an 8 feet tall vintage wooden ladder for $5 but I would much rather have your pagoda chandelier!
I would’ve fallen in love with that fixture too!! Great find!
Perfect! Great for both the wallpaper and the lantern in your office!
Isn’t that crazy. One little thing can change the whole feeling of a room. I found a good little red side table that changed the dynamic in our entryway.
Lucky duck!;) Looks fabulous! I adore your stripes too!
It looks great! I bought 2 wingback chairs for $9. Yep, $9 for the pair! Can’t wit to get them recovered.
Okay, you might have me beat…
LUUUUUURVE it!! I’m still a total smitten kitten for that office light. Would love to just steal that idea, yes ma’am I would!
Go for it. I’ll act really surprised if I come to your house :)
That is a one happy and bold foyer. Enjoy!:)

What a great deal! Your foyer looks fabulous with this new light. I never find perfect deals like this. You really have the talent! :)
I also scored a thrift shop chandelier for…wait for it…5.99!!! Best six bucks spent in a long time…that’s less than my usual starbucks order.
My greatest find so far has been my sofa. I searched and searched for a pretty sofa but couldn’t spend much b/c I was a student and just didn’t have the extra funds. I checked out this well known furniture place in our town and when I walked in the prices literally hurt my feelings. I couldn’t even afford a decorative pillow from that place! The salesman working with me told me that they had a warehouse in the back with furniture on clearence. I went back there and there it was. My beige linen couch filled with down feathers. Here’s the good part: originally $2500 marked down to $200!!! The prettiest couch and the cheapest I found during my weeks of searching!
Great score. Love the punctuation of black, and it looks amazing against the wall stripes!
I just bought some Restoration Hardware dining chairs for $80/each! What? The knock off ones I bought at Home Goods the day before were almost double the price. On my blog! Love the light. :)
It’s so perfect! You always manage to find the most amazing thrift store items! Jealous.
xo!

That seals it–I am going to a thrift store to get my next light fixture! I was already in love with the one in your office; I just wish I lived near you so we could shop together. :) My latest deal is a free 5×7 black & gold rug. Free! I’m so glad you make designing on a dime look so sophisticated; it makes me not feel so alone when I’m grabbing up my freebies!
Love the new fixture. I found some great window panels for my dining room at West Elm that 100% changed the look of the space. The room has a softness now that it desperately needed. I blogged about it just last week so feel free to check it out.

I love your stripes!!!
Great score!!! It looks amazing! Does hubby hang lights, or do you have to bring in an electrician. Or your dad??!! Handiest person ever. Is that weird that I’m talking about your dad, like I know him, and like I know you, really?? Nah, just your ordinary stalker.
and ps — you can paint those plastic sleeves on the lights…gold leaf pen? Black sharpie geometric pattern? even wrap with cool paper. My 2 cents, since you didn’t ask for it.
Every time I see that light in your office, it just kills me. Once upon a time, I owned the same light in all it’s brassy gold goodness. When I started updating our house it was one of the first things I got rid of. Oh how I wish I would have kept it and just spray painted it. That’s what I’ve learned from you….paint the gold…don’t toss it.
Wow – great price and great look!
Great Score!!
I am in love with that pendent. Great find!
love it!!!! any tips on hanging lighting? i just scored an amazing white antler chandelier for my boys room and had a handy man hang it for me but it’s crooked. he swears it’s the chandelier, but i don’t believe it!
Unfortunately, no. I’m not the light hanger around here. It’s usually my husband, dad or father-in-law…
Nice blog… thanks for sharing with us..

Lucky you! I kinda want it :)
I wish I had time to thrift. That was a steal…and I love the way it looks. You scored babe.
