My poor (oldest) boy. He sadly told me that his was the only room that I hadn’t done anything to since we moved in. (My kids are so mistreated . . .) Actually, he’s right. I didn’t do anything to it because I just wasn’t sure of our plan. Eventually, he’ll probably move to another spot in the house, but he deserves to have a happy space for now. So, the plan is to do a redo, with no permanent changes and for as little money as possible.
The Etsy shop Alexander Creative asked me if I would like one of their Jeremiah 29:11 posters. As soon as I saw it, I knew this was a great starting point for the room. (And, what a great promise for our kids—and ourselves.)
I’ve also been borrowing from other parts of the house. I moved the parsons desk from the entry and the Tolix chairs from my office so he could finally have the little workspace in his room that he’s been asking for. (My kids think this is so much fun. They’ve been using it to play school here for hours.) At some point, I plan to hang the pictures on a different wall and make a big bulletin board for this spot:
(Notice the walls? Sherwin Williams Shoji White strikes again. I also used it here and here. I decided to keep it neutral since I don’t have a plan and am kind of making this up as I go along. . . )
And, you might remember I ordered a Dash & Albert plaid rug from here on a whim. Just in case you’re wondering, I’m really happy with it. (I also found an ALREADY ASSEMBLED Hemnes chest of drawers in the clearance section at Ikea! Anyone who has assembled a piece of their furniture knows why this is exciting.)
So, that’s a start. And, nobody feels neglected.
Looks great! Love the plaid rug. How I wish my little boy (20!) would let me decorate his room. He thinks I’m nuts because I keep wanting to corral all of his remote controls in to a rattan basket. “Mom…stop trying to decorate my room!” he says with humor in his voice.
Love the plaid rug and that brass task lamp! What great, masculine, and rich touches without getting too grown-up.
I LOVE that verse! Looks like a great start – double woot on the Ikea find! I’ve had a certain ikea box sitting on the floor of my basement waiting to be assembled since ……wait for it……Memorial Day! Yeah – need to get on that ;)
I love everything you have done so far. Actually I am starting doing changes around the house and I come here everyday for inspiration. And today I got more than design inspiration… The Jeremiah 29:11 poster gave hope to my heart! Thank you for this! ;-)
It’s looking so good! I love the rug and the brass lamp! It’s the perfect room for a little boy!
Love the room so far! Really loving the printed verse. Did you buy that somewhere or make it yourself? I’d like to do something similar and would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction!

Thanks, Ryan :)
Thank you! Excited to check it out!
Still love that rug.. it’s so gorgeous. And what a great print!
I love the plaid rug! That room is going to be great. My poor boy is also among the neglected. My girls always have their rooms done first, and he just doesn’t notice. As long as his helicopter is in there, he’s happy.
Your poor neglected children ;) Love that print, too. Great look with those chairs and the parsons desk. So funny about Ikea. Headed there today and jealous you didn’t have to put that together. I put two dressers together {okay, ryan did} and then took them apart to paint them. Then back together. Ryan = not happy!
Love that verse! You are such a sweet mama and seem to keep such a healthy balance between work and family. You are a blessing to both!
That scripture really blessed me today…I needed that at this time in my life. Thank you.
Can never go wrong with black and white in a boys room! Love it! Especially the rug!
It looks like you’ve got a great start and the room will grow with your son as he gets older. My 10 year old son wants a room decorated around Xbox posters. Not my fave to say the least, but I’ll work around it. He also wants a desk and I’m all for it if he actually does his homework. :)
Oh, I love what you have going! That plaid rug is nothing short of gorgeous and classic.
Can’t wait to see more!
Great ideas.
Blessings,
Anna
Love the scripture. The perfect thing for us to reflect on. xo Kristin
I adore that rug!! I’ve been really attracted to graphic plaids, buffalo check & stripes lately- thinking that might be the direction of our guest room & bath. We’ll see!!
Emily the subway art with the verse on it, is beyond a perfect thing for a young man. This is a favorite verse of mine and I have used it many times when talking to friends going through hard times. These are words that we can all hold on too!!
What a wonderful reminder for your son as he grows up and goes through all the changes that are before him. I know most will be looking at how well it is all coming along, but the art really struck a cord with me and one that I will remember next time I help someone do a boys room. Love it!!

I feel neglected…maybe you should come to my house! ;) I am cracking up at your IKEA comment, because I DO know the pain of assembling a dresser. Actually, I know the pain of WATCHING my husband assemble an IKEA dresser. For three weeks…because that’s how long it took to finally get all of the right pieces!
The Dash & Albert rug looks great in there. Glad you love it in person. Funny story, so mine is in my foyer and I had a pizza boy say “nice rug”. :)
Love, love, love the poster- can’t hear that promise enough! And I love the rug! Looks like you’re off to a great start!
A great start! And don’t get me started on assembling Ikea furniture! :)
I love what you have done so far!! That print is one of my favorites!
Looking good!
