Merry Halloween?

October 11, 2012

My Christmas tree is up.  In October.

IMG_2579

And, here’s my little Christmas elf working to put it together while I’m blogging away (or possibly playing on Facebook) at my computer.

I haven’t completely lost my mind.  I’m just part of a group of bloggers participating in Home Depot’s Holiday Style Challenge.  You can see who else is putting up garland and lights alongside their pumpkins here.

More details on this later.  And, just curious, early birds:  how early do you usually put up your tree?

We’re traditionalists; we pretty much always do the tree on the day after Thanksgiving. Lately I’ve been getting the urge to put it up early, but I’ll resist for now. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

As soon as we finish Thanksgiving dinner, my husband KNOWS to grab our guests and pull out the tree. The outdoor decorations go up the weekend after Thanksgiving. It’s weird, but I just love the holidays now that we have kids, and I want to appreciate all the beautiful decor that takes forever to put up!

So fun! I just love the holiday season. I agree with the others that it’s usually the weekend after Thanksgiving or that week that we put our tree up. I’m not opposed to having it up earlier though! :) Good luck with the challenge!!

Hi Emily! So glad to see your tree up! I was just asked to be a part of our church ladies’ group Holiday Kringle Mingle House Tour, (1 of 3 houses) and so I’ve been planning and crafting and shopping for Christmas for the last 2 weeks. My tree isn’t up yet, but I’ve been sewing up coordinating stockings, bought another tree, and will be accessorizing my hutch with christmas here in the next week just to get a head start so I’ll be ready by Dec 8. There’s actually not too much time before Christmas! Can’t wait to see what your next Christmas posts will be about.
    Have a wonderful day!

Right after Thanksgiving, then leave it up for two weeks after Christmas. The two weeks after Christmas thing is rather excessive, but I just like to extend the magic out as long as possible. I just hate it when there’s all this big build up, and then once Christmas happens, for everything to suddenly disappear! It’s too taxing on my holiday emotions :)

We usually put up our Christmas tree the weekend following Thanksgiving. But, if I had my way, I’d keep a Christmas tree up all year long and decorate it according to the different seasons and holidays!

I love your blog post title! My sister starts November 1st and I always make fun of her but it always turns to envy when on Thanksgiving weekend she is relaxing and watching holiday tv shows and I am lugging out boxes. I may put it up week before this year. But my holiday garland is up around my front door – I then put my fall leaf garlands on top of it. Then, when it comes to decorating for Christmas, it takes about ten minutes to convert the porch from Fall to holiday. :-) Can’t wait to see what is in store with your holiday decor…

Where did you find your tree? I have a small one with berries, leaves and beautiful pine cones and have been looking for a full size. This looks like what I want! Please share! I love your blog!!!

It was actually provided by Home Depot. It’s a pre-lit tree by Martha Stewart that should be in their stores by next weekend :)

I have started to put mine out a week or so before Thanksgiving. I did it out of necessity one year, but kept up the tradition because I really liked having it up during Thanksgiving dinner. Christmas is on everyone’s mind anyway!

Ooo I’m excited to see what you do! It’s funny, I was scrolling through my reader feed seeing what posts looked interesting and I saw the tree and your title and the first thought that came to my mind was “wow, someone’s really jumping the gun”…then I saw it was you and I was like “Wait, what??” LOL! But now it makes perfect sense. :)
I like to have our tree up the day after Thanksgiving. Gives me something to look forward to after all the pies and turkey are gone.

Thanksgiving day but seeing your tree go up now I’m tempted to put mine up. I just love Christmas and all that it means, the spirit, the warmth, and especially the attitudes in the everyone around. Can’t wait to see what the rest of your “early Christmas” brings. Although with those two precious bundles you have already hit the jack pot!

I usually put up several trees. The last to go up is our fresh family tree, about 10 days before Christmas. This year my first tree will go up Thanksgiving weekend!

I like to put mine up the week before Thanksgiving. I see Thanksgiving as part of Christmas and just let the good times (and the carbs) roll the whole time! :)

Well, better you than me! :) December 15 is my tree day! I get tired of them if I do it sooner, I might put the nativity set and a few things out before then. I have boy/girl twins as well but mine are 18! We have a Florianni Nativity set which is some type of indestructible resin that looks nice. Baby Jesus and the angels have been launched many times across the room and the set still looks great! It’s one of those many things you first think you need to keep reverant and sacred, then you just realize you need to “let it go”.

We usually put it up the day after Thanksgiving, but our neighbors across the street have had theirs up in the front window all year long! Might as well leave it now. . .

Never until after Thanksgiving, and that includes buying ornaments. Until this year – I’ve been seeing the special chinoiserie ornaments I collect everywhere, and I can’t help myself! Can’t wait to see what you do for the HD challenge.

After Thanksgiving… It’s a family tradition to watch Christmas Vacation and string popcorn and cranberry for the tree for the last 29 years…..but I start to bring out my village the week or two before Thanksgiving. Looking forward to seeing what you do. How are the babies? Have a nice weekend.

I have to say, I nearly had a heartache hearing that you’ve put up a tree already! I LOVE Halloween and the start of fall, so I relish in the decor. I’m not a huge fan of Christmas and in fact, last year we skipped the tree altogether. Now that we’ll have a 20 month old, I feel like we have to grab this holiday by the horns and I’ll probably start decorating the first of December… Don’t tell, but I’m not good at shopping for Christmas early either. Guess I’m going to get a rude awakening this year.
