I recently came across this bedroom (via this month’s BH&G) and thought this was a pretty clever solution if you have windows without moldings. They simply “framed” out the windows using a darker shade of paint (very similar—or maybe the same as—the crown molding).
Along the same lines, here’s another example of how paint was used to frame out a bare window. Of course, this would only work for those lucky few who didn’t need shades for privacy. Interesting idea for bringing in a little color, nonetheless:
PS—Hope all of my readers who are feeling “Sandy” are okay! Just really windy in Charlotte.
I like that the panels are hanging over the moldings too; it keeps it all a bit more subtle which only adds to the “finished” feeling of the room. Thanks for the post.
What a fun, affordable idea. Collecting all kinds of thoughts for my future home, and I’m pinning this one!
I like the whole room, very pretty bedding and I love the shades, they add such a cozy element
I like the idea of the first one, but the curtains should have been hung lower or the shades should have been hung outside the window frame. Too much wall between shades and curtains.
I can honestly say I have never thought of doing that. Although I do remember Janell doing crown with paint. I really like it. Makes me look at some of our uncased windows in a new way. Hmmmm.
Hello, ficou divinamente lindo essa moldura. Uma ótima sugestão e a cama está belíssima. Amei seu novo look,
Tenha uma ótima semana.

How genius! They did such a good job in that first picture I couldn’t even tell that wasn’t molding! Pinning this for sure!
What a great idea!! I’ve never thought about it and ALL our windows are untrimmed- something that’s always bothered me. I’m going to give this some serious thought. Thank you!!
Love the look in the first photo. I did not even notice that detail while browsing my BH&G issue this month…I was too busy staring at those beautiful framed Heron prints!
This is so interesting…and fairly unexpected. The curtains really help finish off the look in the first photo…
If I didn’t feel like my neighbors were 2 feet away from my windows, I would SO do this! I especially like the painted trim on the inside of the window frame.
I saw that article in BHG. I’m so impressed with the creativity within the entire house, such a great mix of high and low. I particularly liked the bedroom and was drawn to the length of the bedskirt, so luxurious looking and who wants to see a boxspring anyways!
