Nobody sets a table like Martha. She’s inspiring and intimidating all at once. And, sometimes, her ideas seem a little unattainable.
This week, I’m teaming up with One Kings Lane again to tell you about their new sale, “Entertaining En Provence”. Sounds fancy, huh? And, it’s inspired by who else? Martha Stewart, of course, and her take on creating a South of France style dining experience.
It wasn’t until they asked me share how I would “Entertain en Provence” at my own house that I panicked a little. Ummm, have they seen how (and what!) we eat around here? Let’s just say Martha might be a little appalled at our lack of fine dining skills.
But, I was up for the challenge and thought it might be fun to pull items I had around the house to show you my own interpretation of “Entertaining En Provence.” (I’m sure you probably have most of these things, too.)
1. Set of glass bottles (IKEA)
2. Wine corks (Target)
3. Floral napkins (Goodwill)
4. Fresh flowers (our yard)
5. Green apples, for color
6. Baskets (Goodwill)
7. Cutting board (Taylor Crafts)
The whole look is really about creating a relaxed, pretty table with natural textures and colors–and good food to enjoy with friends. Not nearly as intimidating as I initially thought.
To create a similar look. . .
Use layers of the same color, keeping things neutral overall. I added soft greens by using both dried and fresh hydrangeas and green apples. Use glass bottles and vases in groupings to create a collected feel.
I’m on a basket kick lately. They’re great for storage anywhere, but on the table, they make a casual place to store extra utensils and linens so guests can help themselves.
I like to keep the dishes simple and white. Mismatched cutting boards make one-of-a-kind chargers.
Look around your kitchen for things that add interesting textures and color to your table, and display them in glass bowls or containers. I put the apples in my ice bucket.
Now, it’s your turn!
Are you feeling inspired to throw a French-inspired-end-of-summer-soiree yet?

I love your table…on my way over to OKL
THANK YOU for your ideas from IKEA, Target, Goodwill, Craigslist, etc. I simply cannot afford One King’s Lane.
I love this post! You made me laugh with your comment about what and how you eat (I have young kids, too). And I love the elements you pulled together and your tips on how to do it. Ogling over at OKL now :)
@Geckoess You’re welcome. I think this look can really be created on any budget. Also, just thought I’d share that I’ve had luck on shopping sites like OKL with getting credit from referring friends. Once you create your account and start referring friends, you get a $15 credit after they sign up and make their first purchase. I’ve been able to buy several things online this way with the credit I earned.
Your table looks darling. You were cracking me up with your comments. Hey, I totally borrowed your wooden salad bowl for crayons and I LOVE it.
Such perfect timing, I’m having a get together tomorrow night in the back yard. I’ll be channeling you and Martha Emily!
Love the idea of the mismatched cutting boards used as chargers! Genius! So copying that! Goodwill here I come!
Love how you just threw together that En Provence look from items around your home. Great job! OKL is my daily obsession!!!
I love your table…and cool idea to use cutting boards as chargers!
