More tweaking to this little spot in our house . . . (I think it drives me crazy because I see it from my desk when I’m working.) Anyway, remember the “pleather” ottoman cubes I stuck under the console? I liked the shape but hated the look of them. (I ordered them from Walmart.com a couple of years ago, btw.)
My aunt and uncle visited over spring break, and she happens to be one of the best seamstresses I know. . . . Luckily, she was up for some projects :)
I didn’t have a specific color in mind, but we made a trip to the fabric store and I found this green linen, along with some white ribbon trim. We started by removing the tops and stapling the fabric around them.
Since I have little to no relationship with my sewing machine, she sewed the skirts and added the trim. We carefully stapled the skirts to the inside of the bottom of the cubes.
And, once she was finished, I realized that the skirts weren’t going to work with the front metal bar of the console table I had there. (More on that here.) Nothing like good ‘ole thinking ahead. . .
Luckily, I had the parsons desk from my old office in the kids’ playroom that wasn’t being used much.
I think it actually brightens up the space better:
Hurray for crafty aunts! She did a great job. Your space beautiful and very inviting, Emily.
That looks great. The lighter look is perfect for spring and summer. Lucky you to have a seamstress in the family!
I was really hoping that plan B didn’t involve having to put those adorable ottomans anywhere else! Looks great!
Just beautiful! Gotta love talented help…Janell
much better, you figured out the tail was wagging the dog didn’t you!
So pretty – You and your aunt make a great team!
Isn’t it funny that when you run into an unexpected decorating roadblock and have to find a plan B, the end result is often better than it would have been with plan A?! Your foyer looks amazing!!
The foyer looks fabulous, Emily! Love the green ottomans with the parsons table!

Love the fresh look of the parsons desk paired with the newly skirted ottomans. They look great! A very bright and inviting space.
LOVE the white table instead of the other one. It really does make the space brighter and compliments with the ribbon so well! :) Sometimes “mistakes” turn out for the best!
Wow- I loved the space before, but this looks amazing! I think the parsons desk hides the vent even more now and looks perfect in this space. The newly covered ottomans (which came out beautifully) look great there! You have a winner! :)
Love, love, love it. Your foyer looks fabulous and so inviting.
It looks beautiful! Love the green!
So pretty, the white parson table really brightens up the room, and the ottomans really make a pop.
This DIY looks lovely!

Love it! I think I like that table better there too!
How great to have an Auntie that is that handy (sew-y??)! I love them, and completely agree on the brightening effect of using the desk. Great job, ladies!
Love them and love the color! Great job!

It’s just plain fabulous – your aunt, your skirts, your new(ish) table!!!
Love the green and it looks os much better with the white table! Well done:)
The Parson’s Table lives! mine has been all over our house and it brightens up whatever space it lands in. But I do love it as my desk best.
love your styling!
I like the white table better! Great job!
I love the crispness of the white table!
LOVE the ottoman slipcovers. Gorgeous. Need some for my house! And I think the parsons table is the perfect fit for that space. You’re right … it really brightens it up! Would it be a design no-no to put green lamps on the table, that coordinate with the slipcovers? Or to spray paint the ones you have? I LOVE GREEN, and I was thinking how nicely green would pop there on the white table and against all those white frames. But YOU are the talented designer. I just wondered what your thoughts are on that. Of course I think everything you do is perfection. :)
Beautiful! I actually like the white desk/table even better. It was meant to be. :-)
Abby
I like the white desk much better. I think the white desk, white lamps and large grouping of white pictures makes the vent almost disappear.
Great job on the ottomans.
Perfect. Nothing like re-using and re-arranging with things you have! Your aunt is a whiz too! As usual you make things look so beautiful!
I love it all! The desk looks great there and I love, love the artwork. Great job!
Perfect solution! Love the green linen, and the way the table top is styled…that awesome piece of wood on top of the books is great.
I love the drapes in your office. What fabirc did you use?
Fantastic. Great color!!! I love the border.
Love the parsons desk there!
I’m crushing on that shade of green and on linen lately! Awesome fabric. She did a freat job. I love them with the white table! Good solution.
I love them! They look a millon times better. I also like how the white parsons table really makes the trim on the ottomans pop! You are so blessed to have such a talented Aunt!
I really, really love this! The color of the fabric is great.
The parson’s desk looks fantastic in that spot!!
Love it!!! I am going to do the same thing to my ottomans which must be cousins of yours!!
Looks great Emily. I too have a very talented assistant…aka Mom!
Its perfect!! and I love love the white parsons table much better!! It totally brightened up the space!
Nice job!
I love when something like that works out from room to room. It looks great and I am spying your bird prints that I love too!
Those ottomans are gorgeous! I have a similar leather cube from Target and I wish I could do the same, but I don’t even own a sewing machine, nor do I have an aunt who can sew like that. :( Maybe some day!
Love the white table for spring! I may be redoing my own pleather ottoman soon and this may be just the kickstart I need!
This is a great solution. Love the fabric color, especially with the parsons desk. I knew whatever you did it would look fabulous!!
Those look amazing!! Love the wall art by the way- great matting. Such a good idea for jazzing up simple ottomans.
Katie
oh yeah!!!!!!!!!! MUCH BETTER!!!! :)

That’s what you call a “happy accident”. Looks amazing!!
i like it even better with the white table. congrats!
I like it better with the Parsons table, too! It’s nice how the black is the accent color instead of the white. It’s a very happy vignette and makes me happy that you didn’t fully think through the ottomans. Yay for happy accidents!
Perfect for spring and summer.
You know, the white parsons desk and white accessories really do a lovely job of camouflaging the air vent. Lovely recovering job on both the ottomans AND change in plans! :) -Rachel Morgan
WOWSA…so fresh. Love your aunt!
Styled to perfection I might add.
Love it! Your entry looks so fresh, and that parsons table actually looks perfect-like it should have been there all!
Love it! Your entry looks so fresh, and that parsons table actually looks perfect-like it should have been there all!
(sorry) …. along.
Kudos to YOU for using your creative mind and shopping in your own home, Boy that is wonderful and it really does add just the right pop. Love the lime green in there. I just did a post on adding a touch of bright colors to your home. Yours is a great example of showing what a touch of color can do for a space. Love it,
Kathysue
I’m in love with that trim! The ottomans look amazing. Thank god for aunts who can sew!
Love the new look! I have been toying with a look like this for our entry as well.
Love the lamps! Are they from Crate and Barrel?

looks fantastic! don’t you just love a project that does not require much planning and takes on a life of its own?!?! Lacquering the inside of your front door black may compliment the space. I am sure you have plenty of free time to do that, right? ;-)

Wow, looks great Emily! Does your aunt offer out her services?? ;)
Love the white trim. The foyer looks great. I wish I had your energy and motivation.
Beautiful, I love the trim.
This looks so great, Emily! I love the white and green and the bird prints. It’s very much my style, too. Can I ask what color are your walls in the entry?
I love all the white with the pop of green now!! Perfect!
I love the solution! You pulled the entry together very beautifully!

I just love how all the white looks in that room! Turns out things worked out for the best with having to switch out the table for the desk.
I actually love the white parsons desk there, it seems to conceal the vent even more – maybe because it’s white too? The ottomans look awesome!
Oh it’s stunning! Tangerine may be color of the year, but I’m always partial to a little chartruese pop!
OMG! perfect timing as I’m planning on doing the same thing. Can I ask : did you remove the vinyl or did you attach the fabric right over the top of it ?
Love
