Oreck Magnesium Vacuum Review & GIVEAWAY!

I will admit that I’m not the best housekeeper.  I love to decorate our house, but cleaning doesn’t give me any great thrill.  However, when Oreck recently contacted me and asked if I would like to review this vacuum cleaner, it did make me a little giddy :)

This is Oreck’s new Magnesium vacuum.  It’s lightweight and the frame is stronger than many types of steel, according to their web site.  They must have known what kind of house they were sending it to.  (We can break almost anything around here!)

 

I actually sold our last vacuum at our moving sale for $3, if that tells you anything and since then, I’ve been struggling with the huge hoses that came with our new home’s central vac system.  So, the Magnesium was a nice change for a novice cleaner like myself.

It comes with 30 feet of cord so there’s not a lot of plugging and unplugging, and it worked well on all kinds of surfaces, which is nice since we have carpet, wood floors, rugs and tile in our home.

Since it’s really streamlined, it was easy to maneuver and even fit easily under the sofa (where all kinds of interesting dirt can be found). I’ve had vacuums in the past that felt like it was always a fight, but I’m happy to report that there was no pulling, grunting or sweating on my part :)

Two other features I really like . . .  It has an easy push-button on/off switch with two settings—high for carpet and low for wood floors.

And, changing the bag is super easy, with a convenient zippered pouch right on the front:

It’s so easy to use, even your crazy kids can start vacuuming for you!  (Oh, and another plus—according to my son—it just happens to come in the perfect shade of Kentucky blue.)

    OK… love that it folds flat to go under furniture… my Dyson does not and I would love something that could get under things without moving furniture… bonus that it is light so it could also help with steps!

    I learned that it uses a HEPA inner bag. As air passes through the HEPA inner bag, it captures at least 99.97% of particles as small as .3 microns from that air, such as pollen, dust, smoke, animal dander and mold spores.
    Having 2 long hair cats, this thing would rock my world!

    I love that the Oreck Magnesium vacuum cleaner is the lightest upright vacuum in America, yet it has an extremely strong frame and very powerful. This would be perfect for my household of a dirty husband and two dogs!

    I like that the Saniseal® System automatically seals shut, locking dirt in the disposable filter bag and ensuring a strong seal….because I HATE when you try to empty the bag and get dust and dirt everywhere!

    I learned that the Magnesium includes 3 annual tune-ups, which it’s gonna need if it lives with our family. We are hard on vacuums and I think this one could actually stand up to the abuse!

    Okay, I have two things that interest me: a) this vac goes almost flat, which my stupid Dyson ball doesn’t and b) it weighs 8 lbs, which my stupid Dyson ball also doesn’t.

    People rave about their Dysons, but I am itching to get rid of mine. I don’t like it! I would LOVE to move over to an Oreck.

    *** Hi, Emily! Please, DO NOT PUT MY NAME IN THE HAT, as I already have an Oreck that is, of course, SUPERB in all it does… and my cleaning lady actually prefers it OVER the B-I vac center we have… (And she’s the boss, so I listen, & when needed, have it cleaned, checked, etc!!!)… They (Oreck) really ARE T*H*E BEST in Vacuums!!! Before I ever had a cleaning lady, I HAD/ USED and SWORE by MY ORECK!!!!!!!

    I like the Quickswitch on the back of the vacuum. The one I have now requires me to place the vacuum upright, bend over (I know!), and turn the knob at the bottom of the vacuum. The Quickswitch is a great feature on the Magnesium.

    As designers, when we do an install at a clients house, everybody on the team knows that if a client as an Oreck that I can borrow to clean up the install mess that I will be SO excited!! They have to pull me off the thing – it’s like therapy to just keep vacuuming and vacuuming with an Oreck. I love the size and weight of the Magesium. Being able to get under sofas in a BIG plus.

    So I really think I need my own Oreck in my own house. I might even use if for installs:)

    I learned that you get 3 tune-ups per year with the Magnesium. This would be great for us to use to tidy up our client’s homes from all of the “sticky” styrofoam that gets all over from our unpacked boxes!!

    It’s the lightest Oreck upright ever, and there’s a setting for hardwood floors and carpet…perfect! I hate my vacuum. It overheats and shuts off and barely has suction. Thanks for the opportunity to win a real vacuum!

    What a great vacuum! And I need a new one desperately! Mine is on its last leg. My favorite part about the magnesium vacuum is that it lays virtually flat for easy cleaning under furniture. I don’t like moving furniture to vacuum. I think it’s my favorite part!!

    Oh man, do I need a new vacuum in the worst way! I love that it is the lightest upright because I do not want to break into a sweat while cleaning my floors =) I also like that it has the setting for bare floors because I would love to eliminate the step of sweeping if possible.     I learned that Oreck comes in Kentucky blue and that is light weight and can get in those hard to reach places! My Bissell just let me down (entire housing melted underneath!), and I think this Oreck is the way to go! (Hope I win!!!)

    I love that Magnesium has a shoulder strap for carrying – a real plus for us tired mamas going up and down the steps. :) Would love to have this as my current vacuum has a marble stuck in it (that apparently went in much easier than it will come out – thank you kiddos) and the on button has to be held down while you vacuum (again, thanks kids). Would love to have an Oreck!

    I think vacuuming is a great chore for kids. 8 pounds for the Mgnesium sure makes it easy for them. It weighs the same as a gallon of milk. Plus, the shoulder strap for the hand held vac sure would make vacuuming the stairs easier.

    I’ve been looking for a new vacuum since mIne just broke. I’ve got a long list of requirements and after checking out their site, this fits the bill! The list is:
    * Uses bags (so gross to empty a canister full of dirt, it flies everywhere, gets on my hands– gross!)
    * lightweight – if it’s heavy, I’ll find an excuse to not vacuum
    * lie flat to get under things- there’s always freaky things under my couch
    * needs to go from hardwoods to carpet
    It’s PERFECT!

    I LOVE that the Magnesium only weighs 7.7 pounds. I used to have a cleaning business and we used Oreck XL’s because they were so light, but the Magnesium is lighter than the XL’s!
