Our Master Bath & A $200 MirrorMate Giveaway

April 21, 2011

This giveaway is now closed.

When we had our master bathroom painted a couple of months ago, the plan was to also do away with the basic builder mirror and replace it with two pretty mirrors instead.  Unfortunately, I miscalculated how hard it would be to find two tall, narrow mirrors to fit the exact spaces under the lights.  After bringing home several styles to try, my husband and I sweated like nobody’s business trying to get the old mirror back into its original spot.

A week later, I got an email from MirrorMate and like my fairy godmother, they asked if I would like to try out one of their custom mirror frames.  Uh, yes!  It was the perfect solution.
And, they couldn’t have made the process any easier.  I was able to first order samples of the different frames I was considering.

Instead of matching the frame to the cabinets, I decided to go with a rich, dark color–Cherokee “Java”–to match some shelving we already had above the bathtub.  I thought the darker wood against the light gray walls gave the space a spa-like feel.
The frame came in a few boxes.  Here’s my husband laying out the pieces before we began.  (He was doubtful about my measurements that I had put on the order form; fortunately, I proved him wrong. . .)
It came with really easy-to-follow directions.  We were assuming this might take most of our Saturday morning, but it was actually pretty painless.

All of the glue and reinforcements for each corner were included. . . .

Once we had the frame put together, we had to let the glue set for one hour.

The adhesive strips on the back are stuck for good once you stick them, but luckily they also included cardboard corner guides so that we got the frame in exactly the right spot.

Once the frame was up, the corner guides peeled right off.

To quote my husband, “This wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.  I would do this again.”  There you have it–his official seal of approval!
I really loved the way it turned out.  I think it gives the bathroom the finished look it needed:

We’re looking to add a frame to the mirror in our guest bathroom. Don’t want to do too much in the space, since it rarely gets used, but we’d love for it to be a bit more polished when our guests are there.

we used Mirrormate for guest and master bathrooms — makes a huge difference and doesn’t swallow up much mirror on the edges. The company will send you many samples and quickly. Plus their directions are well written. You do need four hands for placing a large frame on the mirror but a really agile person, willing to bend, reach and stand on the counter could pull it off.

Your mirror looks great! I always wanted to do this in our last house, but I had no idea that there was a company that sold frames like this, and that made it so easy to install…I kept trying (unsuccessfully) to convince my husband to build a frame for our bathroom mirrors. I featured this post today on my blog, and mentioned the giveaway. :)

If you click the link below you will see the lovely vanity in my master bath. Now imagine 2 flat, builder grade mirrors over each sink. YUCK!
Now imagine that same vanity with mirrors over each sink that are framed, with a paneled section in between- nice right?

Perfect timing… I just purchased two mirrors to replace my “builder” mirror, and after removing the rather large mirror we realized why it was there – it’s hiding electrical wires, 3 different wallpapers, and holes in the walls of our 1920’s house. Needless to say, the big bulky ugly mirror is now on our wall, and the two pretty mirrors have been returned!!

Just received a mirrormate frame for my son’s bathroom. Now that he’s older, I thought he would appreciate something more grown up than rubber duckies and pastel colors. I ordered 6 samples in the mail and was able to make a choice just by holding them up to the mirror. When the mirrormate frame came in the mail, I followed the directions to the letter. The mirror frame was up in less than 2 hours. I had my son’s girlfriend help me for the hanging up part. It’s beautiful. I can’t stop going by there and turning on the light just to look at it. Now, I want to do the other two mirrors! I would love to win the certificate to do one of them! It would be great, but honestly, I’ll be doing it anyway. Thanks for a great idea, a great product and very easy to use instructions.
