Truth be told, I’m not a huge seasonal decorator. I love fall, but there’s usually so much going on this time of year that my house gets a little neglected. However, since this is my first autumn as a “design blogger,” I’m feeling a little pressure to come up with an awesome fall decor post. . .
This is the best I could do.
My goals when decorating this little spot were simple: 1.) To use what I had and 2.) To avoid being “theme-y”.
The only thing I ended up buying was a 3-pack of off-white candles at Hobby Lobby for $6. Not bad. (Yes, after 10 years of marriage, I’ve finally run out of our wedding candles.)
Instead of using traditional pumpkins and leaves, I decided to incorporate items that brought in rich colors and textures that represented the season to me. Apples are one of my favorite (and the cheapest) ways to accessorize for a beautiful dose of color.
I also added a few other small touches of fall throughout the house. . . .
Mixed in chocolate brown pillows on our sofa:
I picked up these pumpkins and gourds at the dollar store. Even though they were only $1, they actually look more than real than plastic.
And, there you have it–my attempt at adding a little autumn that will hopefully last until it’s time to break out the Christmas decorations.

Welcome to my newest sponsor, Elegant Touch. They carry a beautiful selection of custom pillows in some of my very favorite fabrics.
Haha…we share another element of the same fabric. I have numerous white pillar candles from our wedding as well. We are going on 7 years…I sill have a few to go. I love the look of fall you infused without it being BLUNTLY fall. Exquisite placement and choice of eye candy.
Cheers~

I love your mantle, Emily! Looks fabulous! And those little pumpkins are so pretty!
Really pretty, Emily! So rich! Your pictures are fantastic – what type of camera do you use?
love it!! so warm and cozy!!
Beautiful! Love the apples. Where did you get that C pillow?

Natural is so much better than themey :)
Everything is just elegantly done. Love the pops of color against the dark wall color.
I am with you regarding seasonal decor, but your mantel looks great. The colors in the photos really pop…are you doing anything different with your images? Looking good! Janell
I like that you brought the fall elements in but didn’t go overboard.
I love the elements that you’ve added. The pillows are a nice touch as well. I’m not a big seasonal decorator myself, but I have a project that I’ve decided to tackle this season too.
love what you’ve done to your home for Fall..just the right amount of Fall added!
…love the apples!
Emily I am with you on fall decor…its hard for me to want to do it. I loved your ideas..just added you to my blog roll. YOu are one talented lady!
Perfectly styled Emily!
Your mantle looks great! And I was like that when it came to seasonal decor, but I don’t think its any different than decorating for Christmas…Or, bringing in a starfish during the summer! I love what you did!
I think its looks great. I am not a fan of theme decorating either. Too much for me. Your’s has a perfect balance.
Love the mantel! Mine is currently in need of some decoration (fall or otherwise)…this provides some great inspiration. Thanks!
I too am not a “season” decorator and can relate to your dilemma! I love what you did, so simple. I decorated with a similar touch:

I like that you used organic elements in your design. The apples give the space a fresh feel and you certainly can’t go wrong with candles.

I really like the Autumn feel without the “theme” look! I am a fall color fan as well!
Even the mention of the C word gets me excited, Emily! Until then, I have your fabulous fall mantle to inspire me!
Ah! Your orange mirror fits in perfectly! I love how classy and chic this looks – the apples are the perfect touch!
I like your “fall” look…very natural and understated!
so beautiful! That mantle is stunning!
I love your pillows on the couch with the single monogram. Do you mind me asking where you got them from?
That looks great. I love that it brings in some elements of the season, but that’s it’s not too themey.
Is that the Trout Gray on your walls? I’m considering it for my master bedroom, but worried it will be too dark.
I am completely with you on the seasonal decor- love to decorate my exterior for fall but just don’t have that much space or time to do the interior. I do love to look at everyone’s pictures though! Your mantel looks great!
Looks great, Emily!
By the way…I have just completed a kitchen remodel and I made a DIY roller shade for one of the windows following your instructions from your post in June. I am going to write a blog post about the shade in the next day or two as I have had a lot of inquiries about it…of course I will be giving you and your lovely blog post all of the credit for the shade!
Check it out on my Design Blog under my kitchen remodel post:

What a great simple yet beautiful fall update
this looks great. simple…clean!
xo
very elegant yet so simple :) I like it
Love the look, and I like how you didn’t go themey. It just pops off your navy wall.
That mirror looks so striking against the navy wall. Looks so inviting.
Looks fabulous…especially against your dark wall! I switched out a few things on my mantle this weekend too, but have such light walls that it’s not very impactful.
xo, cass
Very nice Emily…so simple and love the choice of the apples!
I am not much of a seasonal decorator either! I like your subtle infusion of fall. I think we are less inspired to decorate for fall here b/c it was still 90+ until last week. :)
I LOVE IT! The apples look so amazing with that mirror and against your dark walls.
I think you’re seasonal decorating is very pretty and very understated just like I like it, I’m not a big seasonal decorator either, although because I just moved into my new house and have no mantel on my fireplace yet I feel like I’m getting the shaft!
Love the simplicity! I like to use apples and pears, too. They have a wonderful variety of colors. Well done :)
Well done! Everything looks beautiful, as always Emily :)
xoxo Laura
Very nice! That’s my goal lately too – to use what I have – I certainly have enough decorative items around my home! LOL!
Amazing how your hubby didn’t notice until later, typical!
I’m generally not a seasonal decorator, but I love what you did. Very tasteful!
Love the look! I just found your blog and am already feeling very at home, haha.
Looks great! The mirror over your mantle is sensational! So is the quality of your pictures – you must have a kickin’ camera!

I love your goals — and the results! I’m almost embarassed to admit that I have some faux green apples that I bought eons ago from Pottery Barn. Somehow, they look more real than real apples. I’m not sure how that’s possible … but as proof, at least one apple has bite marks in it! ;-)
So pretty! that Sun mirror is perfect for all the fall decor!
