I only started reading design blogs a couple of years ago, but was instantly hooked. One reason is because of the incredible DIY projects I find that can often be completed by spending next to nothing. You people are so creative!
Here are a few of my favorite (inexpensive) blogger DIY projects I’m itching to try:
Love this chic no-sew faux roman shade by Camilla of High-Heeled Foot in the Door. And, love the detailed, step-by-step directions that she provides even more.
At first glance, one would think Christina of Full House had spent a pretty penny on designer wallpaper for her daughters’ room. In reality, she modge podged big pieces of cardboard with scrapbook paper and then had trim cut to frame them. Genius!
Lakeitha of Home to Three Duncan Boys saved herself $100 by customizing her own bedskirt based on this picture. She used a $15 bedskirt, some grosgrain ribbon and Stich Witchery.
Got a good DIY that saved you tons of money? Would love to hear about it. . . .
I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m working on a sunburst mirror from this tutorial: http://www.bystephanielynn.com/2010/06/recycled-cereal-box-sunburst-mirror.html. Its looking pretty good, although mine doesn’t seem to be as big and open as hers.
These are definitely on my list too!!! Ahh…there are some amazing DIY in blogland!
Emily….I did this in my master bedroom to save money [you can see them on my blog] Since bedskirts are so expensive to have made, I took inexpensive curtain panels [3] and folded them in half. I then used upholstery pins to secure them to the mattress. Voila! Cheap bedskirt!
I’m obsessed with the headboard from full house! I would love to try it!
I agree, Emily. I cannot believe how many great diy projects are out there! Karen at Strictly Simple Style just did a post today about making a no-sew slipcover for an ottoman – looks great and pretty easy, too!
I love DIY projects! That blind is so fun!
You’re so right! A good DIY project keeps me coming back every time. I keep trying to work up the courage to do a roman shad on my own. maybe this’ll make me! : )
My favourite DIY was re-doing my laundry room on the cheap, since I am renting I could only do cosmetic changes.

All brilliant ideas! I’m dying to frame some wallpaper panels, too.
Did I hear no-sew and Roman shade in the same sentence? That sounds like a project for me!
LOVE a good DIY project, thanks for sharing these gems!
Love all of these projects! And I would have never guessed that the paper was scrapbook paper!! Amazing :) Thanks for sharing these, I have been itching to try faux romans and I can’t sew so I am going to have to check that one out!
